ISSUE THREE 2011
Please take some time to review the updated the CETA Catalogues for Term 3 which are now on our website as they contain resources appropriate for learning, teaching, and assessing in each of the subjects we support. This term our new resources focus on Accounting and Business Studies, while not forgetting Digital Technologies and Economics which we continue to review to ensure they meet current requirements.
The 2011 CETA Practice Exams have been added to the catalogues and of course are still available.
A number of schools have decided of offer courses in Accounting in order to meet the New Zealand Curriculum Level Five Social Sciences Curriculum Objectives:
- understand how systems of government in New Zealand operate and affect people’s lives, and how they compare with another system.
- understand how economic decisions impact on people, communities and nations
- understand how people seek and have sought economic growth through business, enterprise and innovation.
Clearly such a course should have meaningful outcomes for students whether they select Accounting at Level 5 only or continue their studies at a higher level. The newNZCETA New Zealand Curriculum Level 5 AccountingHandbook has been written to assist with the programme design and implementation ensuring that the subject can progress to meet the Accounting Learning Objectives through The New Zealand Curriculum Levels and links with NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3. Topics have been suggested which are appropriate for students at Level 5 and allow for the varying time allocations that different schools make available.
This Handbook will be a valuable resource for any school where Accounting is offered as well as for classroom teachers, including for the assistance it will give to teachers who may not be Accounting subject experts but are required to teach a Level 5 class.
We have also begun developing teaching and learning materials to support the suggested NZCETA Level 5 Accounting course, see Acc 11/3/1 below. This development is continuing.
Another addition to our resources are the A3 posters which overview Accounting at Level 5 and Level 6. These are suitable for classroom display. Although these have copyright to NZCETA, we are making them available in electronic form to schools who may wish to include them in documents such as course selection booklets as they clearly show course coverage. Refer below and to subject catalogues.A similar overview is available for Business Studies. Refer below and to subject catalogues.
We are pleased to offer a range of new NZC Level 7/NCEA Level 2 Business Studies resources which are detailed below.
