We are continuing to engage with local GP practices to move forward with EPS Release 2. Each month we send out an email with an update of sites live or planning to go live. If a site close to you is going live, we will contact you to discuss the go live.
Please can you ensure that all staff are familiar with the EPS Tracker and that this is referenced before the GP surgery is contacted, if you need any help using the tracker, please contact Tom or Rachel whom will send out additional information as required.
Please remember if the practice added a clinical message for the patient, you need pass this on to patients.
Free HSCIC EPS pharmacy master classes - To help dispensers to get the most out of EPS, new master class training is available for all staff working in community pharmacy and for dispensing appliance contractors (DACs). Below is the information reiterated to give you guidance and some useful information on how to prepare yourselves for EPS Release 2.
· We are in the process of planning and rolling out additional Smartcard unlocking access to pharmacies. To enable you to do this, please ensure you have a spare (external) card reader (recommended model Omnikey 3121).
· Hints and Tips - Please follow the link for a very useful document form BSA with lots of Hints and Tips for EPS http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/Documents/PrescriptionServices/Dispensing_Contractors_-_Issue_18_(final).pdf. The BSA has produced an EPS special edition of their regular ‘Hints & Tips' newsletter which focuses on helping you get the most out of EPS.
· Please can you ensure you know where ‘Pharmacy message’ are displayed on your clinical system, these are sent a private message from the GP practice and can contain very important information.
· When making exception statuses, please ensure you make the correct exception status on your system!
· Nominations by dispenser - New data giving details of the number of nominations set by every dispensing contractor is now available on the EPS website.
EPS Prescription Tracker application - This is a web application which will allow you to search for prescriptions within the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). It will not return any patient sensitive information, like the medication prescribed, but will confirm if the prescription exists and whether the prescription is available for dispensing.
