CHANGING TIMES & EVOLVING CULTURES

Thisintroductory course encourages a dialogue with psychosocial implications and is offered in the context of our encounters with ‘difference’. It explores its impact on us within the wider society. The course provides a rare opportunity to engage in some challenging, sensitive and controversial topics within a safe and supportiveenvironment.

  • Commonalties and Differences
  • Assumptions andPrejudices
  • Developing Cultural Competences
  • Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
  • Working with Refugees and AsylumSeekers
  • Mental Health in the Context of ‘Difference’

Each session will begin with a theoretical seminar, an opportunity to observe interactions between listener/speaker and end with anopen space/discussion group.

WHO THE COURSE IS FOR:

Counsellors/psychotherapists,socialworkers,mental health professionals, individuals from statutory and non-statutory services, individualsfromthethirdsector,teachers,medicalprofessionals,thoseworkingin thecare industry, and anyone interestedintheabovetopics.

THE COURSE WILL OFFER YOU:

•The opportunity for personal and professional development in thecontextofencountering‘difference’.

•An opportunity to further develop and enhance existing listening/counselling skills.

•An awareness of cultural competences to support individuals to become more responsive when working with a diverse client group.

DATE AND TIME:This is an8 week course that will run consecutively on Fridays commencing 6th April – 25th May 2018 from 10.00am – 2.00pm.

VENUE:Barton Hill Settlement, Barton Hill, 43 Ducie Rd, Bristol, Avon BS5 0AX.

There is plenty of on-street parking in the roads around the Settlement.

Light refreshments will be available.

FEES:The course costs £295 and a place will be offered subject to an informal discussion prior to the course. Your acceptance of a place on this course is a contractual commitment to pay the full fee and refunds are not permitted if for any reason you do not complete the course. Two student/trainee places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis at £225.
