Interpretation:

/ Negative for HPA and HLA Class I antibodies.
Positive for HPA Antibody.
Positive for HLA Class 1 Antibody.
Positive for HPA antibody and HLA Class I antibody.
Two or more HPA antibodies were detected in the patient’s sample.
The test results are indeterminate. The presence of two or more HPA antibodies is very remote. This result may represent idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). Clinical correlation is recommended.

Comments:

· The presence of antibodies against low frequency platelet antigens and less common HLA antigens cannot be excluded.
· The result of this assay should not be used as the sole basis for a clinical decision.
· The presence of immune complexes or other immunoglobulin aggregates in the patient sample may cause an increased non-specific binding and produce false positives in this assay.
· Some low titer, low avidity antibodies may not be detected using this assay.
· The presence of other platelet-specific antigens located on GPIIb/IIIa such as HPA-4b (Penb), HPA-6a (Cab), HPA-6b (Caa), HPA-7a (mob), HPA-7a (moa), HPA-8a (SRb), HPA-8b (sra) has not been determined for the platelets captured in the GPIIb/IIIa wells. It is possible that alloantibodies to these systems may be reactive with this assay.
· Antibodies to low incidence HLA class I antigens may not be detected using this product.
· Some non-cytotoxic HLA antibodies may be detected by this technique that do not react in the lymphocytotoxicity assay (LCA)
