Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back and Happy New Year!
It has only been 4 days and the children have settled back into their routines ready for a busy and fun Spring Term. This term we will continue to learn new and exciting things in the seven areas of the Foundation Stage Curriculum which will include the topics‘Learning about the 1960s’,'Superheroes', ‘Space’ and‘Pattern and Texture’. We will continue to teach JEL, handwriting and maths on a daily basis.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you of a few things:
School Hours – Morning Arrival
The doors will be opened at 8:30 and you are welcome to stay with your child until 8:45 when the doors will be promptly closed for registration. If you arrive after this time, please go through the main door and register your child at the office to avoid disrupting the morning routine. Please note that if you arrive later than 8:45 it will be recorded as late on the register.
JEL
This term in JEL we will continue to revise, read and write simple words with the first 26 letter sounds. We are really pleased with their progress and will now begin to introduce letter combinations (e.g. sh, ck and ing). We will continue to send a JEL homework sheet out every Monday to inform you of the week’s letter combination and a short caption for your child to practise reading. We will also provide you with a ‘JEL sight vocabulary’ booklet containing 100 sight vocabulary words that your child will continue to learn in JEL from Reception to Year 2. We would like to stress that this booklet will not be a homework and is there for you as a resource if you choose to use it.
P.E.
Please ensure that your child arrives at school on their P.E. day wearing their school tracksuit and sensible trainers. Please find your child’s P.E. day below.

Library
Children will still be able to visit the library once a week and borrow a book. This book will need to be returned the following week so that it can be changed. Please find your child’s library day below.Reception I and Reception M will visit the library on a Monday.
Home Readers
Home readers will continue to be changed on a Monday and Friday morning. Please make sure that their yellow reading diary has been signed to allow new books to be sent home. We continue to stress the importance of reading with your child every day (even if it is just for five minutes!). At this age, we would like you to enjoy the books and not worry about your child reading the words until they are ready. Please remind the children that book bags should only be used for books and make sure that your child has his/her book bag at all times
Maths Homework
Once again we will be continuing with our Maths activity homework. This will go out on a Friday and be collected on a Wednesday.
Snack and Healthy Tuck Shop
Please ensure you provide your child with one healthy item for their snack. Children can bring in 50p on a Friday and choose a delicious healthy snack from the Tuck Shop trolleyin place of their morning snack.
Parent Sharing Sessions
There will be opportunities this term to attend small group parent sharing sessions. This allows parents to experience the learning in Reception. Dates and detailsto follow shortly.
Reception Parent Consultations
We will be inviting all parents to attend a second parent consultation on either of the following dates;
Monday 12th March (5-7:30pm)
Thursday 15thMarch (5-7:30pm)
Information about signing up for these consultations will follow nearer the time.
Medical appointments
If your child has a medical appointment during school hours, please inform the office staff and bring the letter for them to copy.
Tapestry
Your child’s learning will continue to be recorded using Tapestry. We thank you for your patience in activating each child’s journal. Please email your child’s teacher (using the email address below) if you have not been able to access your child’s learning journey.
Miscellaneous
As the weather is so changeable please ensure that your child has a coat at all times.
Please ensure that ALL uniform and personal belongings are named clearly.
Please ensure your child is not bringing toys from home to school. We would not like them to get lost or broken!
Also, each class has an outside white board next to the classroom door. Please check this board daily for important messages or reminders.
Polite request
If you have any unwanted kitchen utensils at home (e.g. weighing scales/ spoons/ plates/ pots/ unused kettles) then Reception would really like them for our role play home corner. We are developing our environment to allow children to use ‘real’ items. (Please be reassured that items like kettles will only be used in a play based scenario and the plugs/ electrics removed for obvious safety reasons!)
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Miss Ibitson and Mrs Colter (Reception I)
Miss Male and Mrs Bougeard (Reception M)
