- Selecting and importing with the (endnote) program with you
A. Select files from a library database and import into the selected files directly into the endnote program.

The steps with
Open the library database and search using the librarian’s (Barbara Shaffer) recommendations.
Go to ERIC. (You might go to Education Abstracts, or WilsonWeb or other content area databases.)
Put in the search terms. / / 1
Make a note the database used(i.e.: ERIC-Ebscohost, or Education Abstracts-Ebscohost, or WilsonWeb). If you did not make a note, you might be okay, but it is recommended. / / 2
Select the files of interest by adding them to the folder to the right of the screen. / / 3
Go to the folder. Notice the difference between this slide and the previous slide. Notice the menu PRINT, EMAIL, SAVE, EXPORT. / / 4
Export the references following these steps. You want to export the files using the following procedure. / 5
Make sure you select—Direct Export to EndNote, ProCite, or Reference Manager.

In advance, stop and make sure you have an endnote file set up.
Before all of this you have set up an ENDNOTE file with the name of the project. My project Name is reference_search.enl.
Make sure you have ENDnote loaded according the directions. Open the program from your start menu etc. / / 7
Create a new library. The first choice in the list. / / 8

This is what you will see. This file is empty and you will populate it. You could have started a file and input by hand some files, and then added some files. / / 10
Let us go back to the library data base and import the files, clicking on save. / / 11
When you hit save. Select the file that you created in ENDNOTE. / / 12

Questions: What happens when you hit save? BAD things. Nothing comes in. Do not do it. USE Export. / / 24
I have some concerns about multiple databases. I recommend searching individual databases. It does not work for me. I suggest searching one database at a time. / 25
Once you are set on the sources, I suggest using copy formatted. / / 26

Yes, you still have to write the paper and do the research, but this software eases the process. Bring your research ideas. There are particular databases that you will use all the time. You will get used to the best way to import them, but there are directions too, that will help you import seamlessly.
