Plaquemines is Louisiana’s southernmost parish where the Mississippi River meets the Gulf of Mexico. The parish is noted for its seafood industry, offshore oil and gas, and citrus crops. Often referred to as a “Sportsman’s Paradise”, it is well known for hunting and fishing.

While Plaquemines is a suburb of New Orleans, it also contains a large rural population and is home to the Naval Air Station. Because of its geography, our parish has both suburban and rural communities.

Plaquemines Parish has eight public schools with a population of 4105 students. We are proud to note that Belle Chasse Primary is designated as a Blue Ribbon School.

Pupil Appraisal consists of three school psychologists, two educational diagnosticians, and two social workers. Our team includes speech, occupational, and physical therapists, as well as APE teachers, and nurses. Our parish has been in the forefront of implementing programs such as Universal Screening, RtI, and PBIS. Pupil Appraisal has helped develop our parish’s model for data collection and using that data to drive decisions regarding both academic and behavioral interventions and programs.
