Find a topic that interests you and get more info on it.
What are the questions that come to mind - write it down.
E.g. What causes this?
What is it made of?
What are the properties?
How does it work?
Can I think of a better way or solution for this?
How can I test this?
How does this happen?
How is this used?
On what aspect/question would you like to focus?(Normally you would do a literature here before you finally decide)
Write down what the purpose of this investigation will be.
What is your hypothesis (scientific method) or engineering goal (engineering design process)?
You must be able to test or proof it practically with research)
For the scientific method: list your independent, dependent and fixed/controlled variables.
For engineering projects: list the requirements that the design needs, think of characteristics that you design must meet – abilities of the product, environmental impact, user friendliness, etc.
Give a description of the material that you would need and/or the method that you could follow to answer your question or solve your problem.
How will you ensure that your results are valid, reliable, repeatable and ethically acceptable? (Think about controlling your fixed variables, sufficient repetitions, your safety, permission forms)
Write down the five most important references (e.g. science journal articles, books, internet sites, expert people) that you used to get information about your topic.
