Technical problems and Adaptive Challenges

Upcoming Areas of Work:
1. Goal: Design K-6 Intervention:
Establish a K-6 intervention system that meets the needs of each struggling student
·  Technical Problems: (Potential technical problems that we need to consider)
o  Scheduling
o  Personnel
o  Grouping
o  Instructional Materials/Assessments.- resources
o  Space
o  Planning
·  Potential Adaptive Challenges: (Potential adaptive challenges we need to anticipate and plan for)
o  Staff may experience a loss of confidence that teachers can meet the needs of all their kids
o  The intervention design may be an unfamiliar model and there may be distrust that it will support the students more than what they are doing now
o  Some teachers may have teacher preferences that have been appearing to be directives due to the way the information is communicated
o  Decision making process and approach might be unclear
§  Who makes initial decisions, who makes final decisions, what kind of input will be gathered, how will that input be processed
o  There may be lack of clarity on what research base intervention is supposed to look like
o  We may have a lack of experience Thinking and Acting Interdependently
·  Write a plan for approach
2. Goal: Tier I Instruction with consistent Academic language and Vocabulary
3. Goal: Tier I, II, III: Utilize a research based curriculum (instructional materials)
4. Goal: Family Involvement: Math support for parents
Notes for the Leadership Team:
Process:
1.  Continue the collegial, open and honest conversations
2.  Continue to remember to use words that limit judgment or blame
3.  Establish a rehearsal plan for difficult conversations with colleagues prior to sharing sensitive information
Procedures:
1.  Take one area of focus at a time
2.  Identify Technical Problems
3.  Identify potential Adaptive Challenges
4.  Develop an action plan for the technical challenges
5.  Discuss and consider the following things for Adaptive Challenges:
a.  Who is going to be bothered by this?
b.  What will bother them?
c.  Might some folks be experiencing the a loss of identity, confidence or competence?
i.  Are there some folks that might benefit from a small group conversation or a pre-conversation before the whole group conversation?
ii. What is the best format to introduce this issue?
iii.  How can we as a Leadership Team support teachers who may be experiencing loss?
d.  Are there processes that could be put in place to ease the adaptive challenge?
