Job Description

Job Purpose

To deliver, develop and evaluate a range of individual and group supportfor women and at times, their children to assist in their recoveryand well-being; providing opportunities for service-users to grow and developthrough a range of interactions with others.

To work with women and at times their children,referred to our Women Supporting Women (WSW) project for support, targeting those who have experienced violence, including sexual violence, domestic abuse and childhood sexual abuse.

To work with the Pilton Community Health Project (PCHP) staff team, and the WSW Development Workers, to develop the work of WSW and PCHP as a whole.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To ensure women receive appropriate individual and group work support opportunities in response to their needs.
  • To design, develop and pilot a range of individual and groupwork approaches for women and at times, their children.
  • To facilitate clearly-defined groups for women and at times, their children which provide opportunities for positive learning, change and enhancing emotional well-being.
  • To contribute to and facilitate service user involvement within the Project, providing a focus for women’s involvement in local and national activities and provide feedback to WSW and PCHP.
  • To identify potential referring agencies and develop positive working relationships with them; including primary healthcare, social work, the voluntary sector and community networks.
  • To encourage partnership workingin similar interest groups by attending networking opportunities on behalf of the project e.g. multi-agency partnerships, forums, workshops, seminars or public meetings.
  • To develop and disseminate effective information on the project to maximise the involvement of local women and children.
  • To develop the project’s role in producing and disseminating resources and examples of good practice, which promote women’s and children’shealth, including use of social media.
  • To ensure that all activities are in line with PCHP philosophies, values and policies, meet service objectives and are geared to enhancing the lives of women and children.
  • To evaluate all activities and demonstrate good practice; gather and collect data for reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
  • To prepare reports and meet agreed deadlines within PCHP’s reporting system.
  • To keep written records, in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
  • To attend team meetings, conferences and training as part of continuing professional development.

Miscellaneous

To undertake administrative tasks ensuring the smooth running of own work and the project overall.

  • To establish an effective working relationship with the Health Project staff team and with the WSW Development Workers.
  • Other duties as required by the Pilton Community Health Project Director and/or Board of Directors

Support and Supervision

The WSW Group Development Worker will be line managed by the WSW Team Leader,who will provide regular support, supervision and appraisals.The WSW Development Workerwill have the opportunity to attend and participate in regular PCHP and WSW team meetings and training events.

Additional Information

Hours to be worked flexibly in line with the needs of the service, however we envisage these to be over 3 days per week.

This post is subject to a PVG Check.

This post is also subject to a 3 month probationary period.

Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
Essential / Desirable
  • Qualification in Community Learning and Development, Social Work, Counselling, Nursing, Psychotherapy or other relevant vocational qualification.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience of working with women who have experienced violence; including sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience of working with individuals with complex mental health issues.
  • Experience working with families.
  • Carrying out regular monitoring and evaluation to monitor outcomes.

  • Working with communities using a community development approach.
  • Developing and working in partnership with other local and statutory organisations.
  • Other relevant qualifications or experience such as mindfulness, reflexology etc.

Knowledge
  • Good understanding issues affecting the health of women and children, in particular violence, isolation and mental distress.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the effects of violence on women, including sexual violence.
  • Knowledge of group processes and dynamics.
  • Understanding of health inequalities in areas of deprivation.
