Pickleball Overview

  1. Pickleball is a combination of Badminton and Tennis
  2. Net is 3’ high. Same as in Tennis
  3. May play as singles or doubles
  4. Flip a coin or RPS for 1st serve
  5. 1 hit per side. May be a volley (out of the air) or a ground stroke, (off one bounce).
  6. Games are played to 11 pts. Must win by 2
  7. Serve must be. Underhand, below waist, and diagonal.
  8. May not bounce and serve, must be dropped from hand
  9. TWO BOUNCE RULE. The first time the ball comes to your side of the net for both the receiver and the server you must let it bounce one time and only one time.
  10. After the two bounce rule you may hit the ball either on a volley or a bounce
  11. If the ball is in the non-volley area you must let it bounce before returning.
  12. Rotation of Serve. The person on the right will always serve first. If you score a point you will continue to serve, however you must switch sides, (right to left) each time. When you make a mistake, or FAULT, your partner will then serve from whichever side they are on. You do not switch sides on a fault. THE RECEIVING TEAM WILL NEVER SWITCH SIDES.
  13. Where to stand. The serving team must have one foot inbounds and one foot out of bounds on the base line when the ball is served. The Receiving team may stand anywhere in bounds.
  14. Any ball landing on a line is IN BOUNDS
  15. Any ball hitting anything overhead (baskets, ceiling etc.) is out of bounds
  16. Any controversies or interference, the point should be replayed.
  17. A ball hitting the net and going over is in play, if it was done on the serve it is a “let serve” and should be re served.
  18. If a ball hits a poll that is holding the net, it is out of bounds.
