The meeting was called to order at 9:05 AM by Debbie Hoffman.

Adopt the Agenda – this is a new matter & will be discussed at the next Council meeting

Secretary’s Report

Minutes from the June 20, 2013, retreat were reviewed. A motion was made by Michelle Callahan to approve the minutes, Elaine Miller seconded. Motion passed unanimously.

Executive Committee Report

Debbie reported that the executive committee had met and held Danielle’s annual review.

Finance Committee Report

An overview of financials was distributed, but a detailed report was not available, so Council did not vote on the finance committee report.

ECCC Committee Report

Met Sept. 13, 2013. Officers volunteered to serve another year. Group agreed on goals concerning networking and training. Creating a Dropbox for upcoming trainings.

Teen Task Force Report

Met Aug. 27, 2013. Editing the 2013-14 teen health survey. Post surveys on spring bullying program were not completed, so no funding at this time.

Parent Advisory Council Report

No report.

Children’s Trust Fund Report

Incredible Years will have to advertise for facilitators and no dates have been set for facilitator training at this time. Danielle shared some comments from the 12 surveys completed by the 23 participants from the most recent Incredible Years program. Debbie Hoffman inquired if FCFC didn’t spend the grant funds, what are the consequences? Danielle said the funds would be returned. Debbie then suggested Brenda McMahon be contacted to see if she is interested to facilitate the classes because she was a past facilitator. Danielle to contact Brenda.

T.E.A.M. Report

Danielle gave the report. She discussed a young lady’s residential placement. Danielle indicated we will be seeing more cases like this one in the future and we should be prepared to address.

Help Me Grow Report

Debbie Hoffman gave the report. Debbie presented a handout discussing the differences between Early Head Start, Help Me Grow Home Visiting, and Help Me Grow Early Intervention. It was well received.

Old Business

Danielle discussed Family & Children First Council 101. Danielle passed around a sign in sheet about topics for the packet. It was suggested to have an electronic format for the packet as well, to allow members to suggest topics. One topic was to have contact names and services provided.

AGENCY UPDATES

  • Debbie Hoffman gave an overview of the Poverty Task Force. The Task Force is an extension of the Faith Based Summit from previous years. It was initiated by area churches wanting to gather information about existing services in the community. There will be a Resource Fair to be held Tuesday, October 29th at Trinity Lutheran Church from 12 – 3 p.m. From 12 – 1 p.m. will be for agency staff and a lunch will be provided. From 1-3 p.m. for public. Debbie passed out a flyer.
  • Elaine Miller announced the Health Department has started a 3 year accreditation process. Also the Health Department has been getting children vaccinated for the school year. Get your flu shot!
  • Mike Pelcic announced PCDD is having a golf outing fundraiser for Special Olympics at the Country Club. He passed out a flyer.
  • Rosemary Starkey stated Head Start is fully enrolled with 212 children.
  • Nick Tatman commented on completely new staff at Children Services. Wednesday of Pumpkin Show will be parking cars. Haven House will be having their annual fundraiser fish fry drive thru at JFS.
  • Joy Ewing announced the Food Assistance program will be undergoing an allotment change. In October the allotment for Food Assistance will be increasing. In November the allotment will be decreasing. For 1 person it will go from $200/month to $189. Joy also mentioned Jobs One Stop will be changing names to Ohio Means Jobs Pickaway County. This is part of a statewide rebranding initiative from House Bill 1.
  • Jarrod Priest, YMCA, commented on an upcoming event – Ride Strong, Live Strong. Cycle ride fundraiser for cancer survivors. $250 will pay for a half ride of 250 miles. Starts in Oct.
  • Andrew Binegar reported the PICCA Golf Scramble raised $5,000 for the Men’s Shelter; a family shelter and female veterans shelter is opening; Nov. 8 is the chili cookoff; PICCA is on Facebook
  • Connie Hardesty noted Michelle Callahan from the Library is an resolute supporter of the Parent Support Group meeting as well as Donna Solovey with PICCA Head Start. Connie also discussed grandparents as primary caretakers of children.
  • (Representative from Berger – Nikki Salvatory (?)) reported on the education and support program for pre-natal mothers.
  • Michelle Callahan announced movie night at the Library and distributed the Teen Newsletter.
