Physical Education “Hurricane” Handbook

DAILY ROUTINE for Physical Education Classes

  1. Go to your school locker BEFORE coming to PE. Leave books/book bags, valuables and other personal items in your school locker. IPOD’s, CD Players, and cell phones are NOT allowed in the PE classes.
  2. Enter the boys/girls locker room via the back doors located near the softball field. Students go directly to your attendance lines for roll before dressing out, so that you are not marked tardy. You will have 2 minutes from when the tardy bell rings to be in your lines for Roll.
  3. Bring PE clothes to class each day, if you don’t leave them in your PE locker.
  4. Make sure to bring any medical assistance devices to class. (Asthma inhaler, Ect.)
  5. Go to your assigned PE locker after ROLL CALL and change into your PE uniform.
  6. Locker room doors will be locked after you dress out. There will be no locker room restroom use during class, so use the restrooms before you leave the locker room.
  7. At the end of PE class, all students and PE teachers will enter locker room together.
  8. Showers are encouraged, but not mandatory. Allow yourself enough to take a quick shower. It is a good idea to keep deodorant in your PE locker.
  9. After changing, Lock your PE clothes in your locker, and return to you assigned roll call area for dismissal.
  10. Please take PE clothes home at least once a week to be washed.
  11. All students are to Dress in the Locker Room.
  12. All backpacks are to be left in the Locker Room during class.

The Required Physical Education UNIFORM

  • A COMPLETE CHANGE FROM SCHOOL CLOTHES IS REQUIRED
  • Each student is required to purchase a MDHS PE UNIFORM. Uniforms will be available during orientation, and may be purchased from Coach Grabowski during the school year. The cost of the uniform (shirt and shorts) is $20. Make any checks payable to Mt. Dora High School
  • For the safety reasons, uniforms help us identify the students that are suppose to be in class, closed toed shoes MUST be worn in PE classes. Any student wearing sandals or flip flops will not be considered dressed out, and will receive a ZERO “0” for there daily grade.
  • Use a permanent maker to write your name on the name stripe of the shirt and shorts.
  • If possible, it is recommended that students have two sets of PE clothing: indoor and outside.

NOTE:

IF YOU DO NOT DRESS FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS,

AND YOU DO NOT PARTICIPARE IN CLASS…

NOT DRESSING AND NOT PARTICIPATING

WILL RESULT IN FAILURE!!!!

Grades

Your Physical Education grade will be determined from recorded data collected from the following areas.

DRESSING OUT and PARTICIPATION- 20 points a day for the week

Each student will start off with a 100% for the week and each day they do not dress-out or participate they lose 20 points.

  • Dressing out in proper PE attire
  • Classroom assignments
  • Warm-up/Fitness Work
  • Effort/Attitude/Cooperation
  • Teamwork, Consideration of Others
  • Adherence to Class Rules

Medical Excuses

IF YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL:

Since you are in school, YOU ARE EXPECTED TO CHANGE INTO PE CLOTHES AND PARTICIPATE.

Please talk to your teacher about how you are feeling. You will be expected to dress out and participate according to how you feel.

REMEMBER- ALWAYS BRING YOUR CLOTHES FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION!!

Menstruation is not an excuse from class.

Dress and perform at your own level.

If you have a MEDICAL EXCUSE:

Medical excuses must be given to your physical education teacher at the beginning of class.

Parent notes excusing students from physical activity due to illness will be accepted for 2 days. Parent notes must be signed and have a phone number and/or e-mail address. Any excuse more than 2 days must come from a doctor.

Students excused from physical activity still must dress out in PE clothes.

LOCKER ROOM RULES:

  • NO GUM/NO FOOD (chewing gum will result in a detention (1st and 2nd offense) or referral (3rd + offenses)
  • NO HORSEPLAYING- KEEP HANDS, FEET, AND OBJECTS TO YOURSELF
  • SECURE ALL VALUABLES, MDHS IN NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ITEMS LOST OR STOLEN
  • USE APPOPRIATE LANGANGE
  • PLEASE KEEP LOCKER AREA CLEAN
  • NO BACK PACKS (backpacks may be stored in the coaches office prior to class)
  • NO BOOKS- ONLY PE CLOTHES AND LOCK

Bottom Line:

Conduct your business in a mature manner and we will all reap the benefits of a nicer, calmer environment.

SECURITY

You can help keep your belongings safe if you:

  • TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOU R OWN BELONGINGS. Students are responsible for supplying their own combination lock. Lock combinations must be kept on file with the teacher. However, you are responsible for remembering the combination. All locks must be removed at the end of the semester.
  • Place valuable in your school locker before class and lock clothing in your PE locker with your combination lock. The only personal belongings that should be in the locker room are your school clothes, your PE clothes, and personal hygiene items. If it is truly valuable. It should be secure at your home.
  • MDHS is not responsible for items lost or stolen.
  • Don’t give your teacher anything to hold during class, do it before leaving the locker room.

Medical Requirements and Exemptions:

Students medically exempted from regular physical education must present a physician’s written recommendation to Guidance at the beginning of each school year or at the onset of the disability.

Equipment

Proper equipment is vitally important in physical education classes. Students are not allowed to touch equipment until instructed to do so by their teacher. Failure to follow these guidelines will not be tolerated, and will result in a detention.
