Philosophy of Assessing Students Learning
I believe that in teaching the most important thing for teacher is to know the progress of students and that’s why assessment is very important in teaching and learning. Research shows assessment means a guide line for teacher to see student’s learning progress and outcome which help teachers to evaluate their students and it’s also help teachers to see their teaching method progress too and get better in it.
I believe assessment is ongoing process which never stop and for that a teacher use many different ways which help a teacher to improve her/his assessment methods overall. Research shows muchdifferent type of assessment methods. Some assessment method teachers use in the class at the end of each chapter, essay, topic, assignment and lecture which call authentic, and second type of assessment where education department give some tests to students to check their and teachers progress call standard assessment. I see benefits of both assessments types. Assessments from education department help students to get ready for college and teacher’s assessment help student to get ready for next level of learning.
Research shows assessment does have good effects on both, teachers and students. Researchers think assessment motivates students to get better. Its help teachers to evaluate students easily and show parent their kid’s performance.
Research shows every teacher do have their own way of teaching and their own way for assessments too. But some assessment types are very common, for example fill in the blanked questions, short answer essay questions, true and false questions, hands on practice tests or practical, math solutions, ext. researchers believe when a teacher make an assessment test has to make sure that assessment covering all the material and problems, students gain good knowledge and review the student’s understanding.
I ask my mentor teacher about her class assessments she said “I review at the end of every lecture. Every day before I start new lecture I review yesterday lecture . I ask questions if it’s history or science topics and give them assignment if it’s math or language art.
