A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Required Novel: This quarter, we will be reading Shakespeare’s play A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Barron’s “Shakespeare Made Easy” edition). I will have copies of the book for sale for $7.00 beginning on, or around Wednesday, October 14. You may obtain a copy on your own or purchase it from me. All students need to have a copy of the book in class by October 20.

Field Trip: On Friday, October 24, we will be taking a field trip to Playhouse-in-the-Park to see their production of Nightmares III. The play is based on stories written by Edgar Allen Poe, whom we will be studying this quarter, and several other authors. The cost of the field trip is $9.00. Permission forms and money are due by Friday, October 17.

Materials Covered:

·  Identify elements of a short story and a drama

·  Analyze an author’s point of view

·  Write a complete argumentative essay

·  Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of a literary text

·  Demonstrate how to use commas correctly and effectively

·  Identify and use subject-verb agreement correctly.
