AGENDA:

  1. CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order at around 12:15pm with Engr. Bitor presiding.

  1. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE JULY26, 2008 MEETING

The minutes of the July26, 2008 meeting were reviewed and approved with minor amendments.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

a.On the distribution of letters to presidents/heads of the institutions

-U.E. representative, Engr. Factor, was informed that the letter for their institution was already forwarded to the Dean of the College of Engineering.

b.On the cost of MBTI questionnaire and answer sheets

-Engr. Bitor informed the group that Dr. Belino has already received confirmation that DLSU has already agreed to administer the MBTI form G for the group. However, since MBTI form M is more recent, the group agreed to use form M instead.

-Mr. Jonathan Macayan furnished everyone a copy of the cost of the MBTI form M questionnaires and answer sheets as their reference for the cost to be incurred by their institution. The cost was in US dollar denomination.

-Everyone agreed that for purposes of computation, the conversion rate would be $46.25 = Php1.00.

-The cost of the questionnaires is $98.75 per package of 25 or $3.95 per questionnaire. The 100 questionnaires to be purchased by PATE would amount to $395.00 or Php18,268.75.

-Each institution would incur a cost of $1.04 or Php48.10 per answer sheet.

-Engr. Recio inquired on how each institution would be billed with respect to the answer sheet if Mapua would be purchasing the answer sheets for everyone.

-Mr. Macayan informed the group that Mapua has no facility to bill the group with respect to the MBTI answer sheets.

-The group proposed that the answer sheets be purchased by PATE as well and that each institution be billed by PATE according to the number of answer sheets each institution will need for the baseline data collection since PATE has the facility to do so on behalf of the RDP group.

-Engr. Macayan informed that the turnaround for the actual purchase would only take around two weeks assuming that PATE is amenable to the proposal of the group immediately.

c.On the MBTI Administration Guidelines

-Using the formula agreed upon in the July 26 meeting, the following is the breakdown of the sample sizes required from each of the institutions involved in the collection of baseline data for the freshman engineering student’s personality profile:

*DBTC – 200*DLSU (Taft) – 280*FEATIU – 80

*FEU-EA – 240*MCL – 280*MIT – 320

*MLQU – 80*UE (Recto) – 280 *NU – 80

-Engr. Ariola inquired as to who will be administering the MBTI exam since DLSU will no longer be tapped and MIT may not have the sufficient manpower.

-Mr. Macayan pointed out that MBTI was designed such that anyone who was made familiar with it could administer the exam. However, to get assistance, Mr. Macayan suggested that the guidance office of each institution would be the best department to tap.

-Assuming that all materials have already been purchased, the tentative schedule for the administration of the MBTI per institution is as follows:

  • Sept. 15 – Don Bosco Technical College
  • Sept. 16 – National University
  • Sept. 17 – University of the East – Recto
  • Sept. 18 – FEATI University
  • Sept. 19 – Manuel L. Quezon University
  • Sept. 22,23& 24 – De La Salle University
  • Sept. 25 & 26 – Malayan Colleges Laguna
  • Sept. 29 & 30 – Far Eastern University – East Asia College

Note: Since Mapua Institute of Technology already has its own set of MBTI questionnaires and it can readily purchase answer sheets, it was no longer included in the schedule since it may administer MBTI anytime

-The 100 MBTI questionnaires, upon purchase by PATE will be turned over, initially, to Don Bosco Technical College before September 15, 2008. DBTC, in turn, will deliver the questionnaires to National University as the next in line. This process will continue up until FEU-EA has administered the MBTI by the end of the month of September. After which, FEU-EA will finally return the questionnaire to PATE.

-Evaluation of the results may be done by the group in the succeeding meetings using the answer keys that MIT would be providing.

-Mr. Macayan will provide the format for summarizing the results of the MBTI exam and will be routed to everyone through email as the baseline data collection starts.

d.On the Administration of Learning Styles Index Test

-Mr. Macayan and Engr. Grande recommended that the Learning Style Index of the students, which will be needed for the study, be collected as well.

-Engr. Grande proceeded by demonstrating to everyone how the test is taken online. She also showed the results could also be easily printed out after exam.

-The group agreed that while waiting for the administration of the MBTI exam to commence it would already be best to start collecting the Learning Style index of studentssince it will only entail that the students answer the 44-item questionnaire online.

-The website to be used is as follows:

-The sample size of the students who will take the Learning Style index exam is the same as the size required for the MBTI examination.

-Each institution is to present the data for the Learning Style index by next meeting.

e.On the drafting of the study’s proposal

-The group of Dr. Belino, Mr. Macayan, Dr. Hofileña, Engr. Bitor and Engr. Dela Cruz will pursue the drafting of the study’s proposal while the baseline data collection is ongoing. Their output will be presented on the next core group’s meeting for final review.

-It was agreed that the proposal should also include the time table for the study’s stages.

  1. OTHER MATTERS

The next meeting was tentatively set on the 27th of September 2008, 12nn – 4pm to be held at MLQU, Quiapo, Manila.

  1. ADJOURNMENT

There being no other matters to discuss the meeting was adjourned at twenty three minutes past four o’clock in the afternoon.
