PHHP Diversity Day, March 19, 2014 –Poster Presentation

The College of Public Health and Health Professions will hold its first Diversity Day on March 19, 2014. Diversity Day will include a display of posters with the goal of promoting an exchange of new ideas in the areas of: 1) health disparities, 2) global perspectives on health, and 3) the impact of diversity on public health and all health professions. Posters should highlight how diversity, cultural competency, inclusion, health literacy, health disparities, community and global outreach, or related issues reflect on one or more of the college’s missions of education, research and service.

Poster components should include:

  1. Background related to your study, educational activity or service program. Include why the issue is important and how it addresses diversity, cultural competency, inclusion, health literacy, health disparities and/or community or global outreach.
  2. Methods used for the research, educational, or service program.Describe the methods used and how these address diversity, cultural competency, inclusion, health literacy, health disparities and/or community or global outreach. Include the challenges and barriers encountered when implementing the activity.

Research results are NOT to be included in the poster. Outcomes related to educational or service program activity may be reported.

The Diversity Day Planning Committee invites all who are interested to submit a 200-word abstract addressing the components of the poster. PHHP faculty, students and staff are invited to submit.

Deadline: The deadline for receipt of abstractsubmissions is February 28, 2014, by 5PM. Students will need to print the attached form, obtain signatures, then scan and send a single PDF file via email to Ms. Brigit Dermott at . Incomplete or late submissions cannot be accepted.

Student Eligibility – To be eligible to submit a poster at PHHP Diversity Day, students must have their submissions approved by their PHHP faculty mentor.Undergraduate Honors students in PHHP Bachelors programs and undergraduates working with PHHP faculty mentors are welcome to submit posters at PHHP Diversity Day.

Review Process - Each poster will be reviewed by the PHHP Diversity Day Planning committee. Selections for poster presentations will be announced by March 7, 2014.
