PHC Foundation Scholarship – Terms & Conditions
- The objective of the Pembroke Hamilton Club (PHC) Foundation is to provide support to the youth athletic program, education program, and scholarship program at Pembroke Hamilton Club Inc.
- The PHC Foundation committee (hereafter called “The Committee”) will review the applicants and at their discretion, grant the scholarship. The top award will be granted to a University student.
- At the discretion of the committee there will be awards granted each year up to a maximum of $10,000. The funds are to be used towards the cost of tuition, living expenses, and/or books.
- Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:
- Hold Bermudian Status and be a permanent resident of Bermuda.
- Must be a member of a PHC program for four consecutive years immediately prior to date of application.
- Be pursuing a program of higher learning at an approved institution of higher education, including the BermudaCollege.
- Be able to present clearly identified goals and career path.
- GPA 2.5
- The committee will look favorably on the following:
- Scholastic ability.
- Qualities of character, leadership, communityand Club involvement, and dedication to achievement.
- Application for the Scholarship must be made on the appropriate forms obtainable from PHC, and must be submitted to the PHC Foundation between the 1st February and 30th April each year.Late Applications Will Not Be Considered.
- The committee will review all applications and will select a shortlist of applicants for an interview. If selected for interview, candidates will be expected to provide the following:
- Proof of citizenship of the Islands of Bermuda.
- A letter of acceptance from the institution of higher education showing the period of study to be at least two years.
- A certificate issued within 3 months of the closing date for applications by a physician stating that the applicant is in good physical health and able to undertake the course of study.
- Two character references.
- Completed 250 word Essay
Failure to attend the interview will be considered a withdrawal of the application.
- The committee reserves the right to decline the scholarship if the applicant is not considered suitable or the application flawed.
- The committee reserves the right to terminate the scholarship award if a recipient becomes involved in an activity that, in the opinion of the committee, brings the prestige of the scholarship, the Foundation or the Club into disrepute. The committee also reserves the right to reclaim part or all of the scholarship if the recipient fails to complete the year for which the scholarship is intended.
- The recipient is obligated to keep the committee appraised of his/her progress by providing to the committee proof of grades, reports or transcripts within one month of receipt from the institution of higher education being attended. Failure to comply may result in suspension and/or reimbursement of the award. The committee will review the proof of grades, reports or transcripts provided and reserves the right to terminate and/or get reimbursement of the scholarship award if a recipient’s grades fall below a GPA of 2.5 or equivalent.
- The recipient will be required to give back to PHC for at least one year in the form of volunteer work which encompasses support for the club through fundraisers, assisting in any capacity with the Club or Club programs, or participation in any of the activities that benefit or enhance the quality of the Club and its members. It is expected that the recipient can complete this task during school breaks and become a steward for our community. Failure to comply may result in suspension and/or reimbursement of the award.
- The committee may request other reports or information pertinent to the award from time to time as it sees fit.
- The scholarship recipient may accept other awards that will assist with meeting their costs of study without forfeiting the PHC Foundation scholarship. However, recipients are required to advise the committee of such other awards.
