PETS & CARE OF PARSONAGE PROPERTY

Pets are an integral part of many parsonage families. Pastors are expected to reimburse the local church for parsonage damage beyond the normal wear and tear of living, and this certainly includes responsibility for parsonage pets. The following “pet policy” consistent with industry standards for rental property is established.

The pet owner is responsible for any property damage caused by pet(s).

The pet owner must conform to all state and local ordinances.

The pet owner is responsible for liability for any injury caused by the pet(s).

If the Board of Trustees requests,the pet owner must providefor professional pest (i.e. flea and tick) extermination of the parsonage when moving, including furnace vents and ducts.

The pet owner must have any carpeted areas professionally cleaned when moving.

Due to the unknowns with regard to pets, a damage deposit is required when pets dwell within a parsonage. A deposit of $600.00 is not an unusual requirement in the real estate industry, nor should it be for the church. Payment is due in full within 30 days of this policy, upon move-in, orcould be withheld in twelve installments over a twelve-month period(or a time frame to be negotiated with the pastor, not to exceed twelve months). Upon the move of the pastor it will be refunded if the pet has done no damage. If damage is in excess of $600, the pastor is required to reimburse the church for actual damages in a timely manner. (Damage should be noted in the walk through before and after the move. Any unseen damage that is noted after the walk through should be resolved quickly in cooperation with all affected parties.)
