EQAT, Earth Quaker Action Team

Campaign Director

Since its founding in 2010, Earth Quaker Action Team has emerged as a prominent regional nonviolent direct action organization. In our first strategic campaign (125 actions in 13 states) we successfully forced PNC Bank to end its funding of mountaintop removal mining in Appalachia. We are presently a year into our new campaign - demanding PECO, the regional utility, increase its investment in solar energy and Power Local Green Jobs.

As EQAT continues to grow and expand its reach and influence, we find ourselves ready to hire our first full-time Campaign Manager. We are asking you to assist us in our search for the best candidate by sharing this information with people whom you think might be interested. Below is the complete job description.

Earth Quaker Action Team has worked hard to create a unique organization. We have shared a remarkable journey together and are excited to welcome a Campaign Manager who will support our continuing evolution!

Campaign Director
Philadelphia, PA
Full-Time
Earth Quaker Action Team is a grassroots, nonviolent action group including Quakers and people of diverse beliefs, who join with millions of people around the world fighting for a just and sustainable economy.

After winning a 5-year campaign that pushed PNC Bank to divest from mountaintop removal coal mining, we’ve embarked on a new campaign, called “Power Local Green Jobs.” The campaign pressures Philadelphia’s energy company, PECO, to expand solar power -- and do so in a way that creates jobs and builds wealth in marginalized communities.

Our organization is unlike many others you may be familiar with. We are a grassroots and exceptionally friendly organization, keeping nonviolent direct action at the heart of our campaigns. We value building deep relationships and pushing each other to grow. Our campaign, its strategy, and the tactics we choose are informed, guided by, and led by our active volunteers. Major decisions are approved by the Board.

As the full-time Campaign Director, you will join our organization one year into an ambitious corporate campaign, right when our target has started to respond. While volunteers plan actions, lead fundraising, nurture ally relationships, and build capacity with new volunteers, we need a Campaign Director to hold the big picture, make strategy recommendations, and ensure cohesion and effectiveness among our committees and talented leaders.

This job might be perfect for you if you:

  • Wake up excited to challenge huge companies, fight for economic justice, or campaign to save our planet;
  • Have a record of campaigning strategically and winning big, bold victories;
  • Can hold the big picture of a project with many moving parts;
  • Love to work with enthusiastic, dedicated volunteers of all ages;
  • Are a strong written and verbal communicator;
  • Are able to work across lines of race and class to build alliances;
  • Have 5+ years of leadership experience in issue campaigns;
  • Are excited to do things with a small budget and a lot of volunteers;
  • Appreciate supervising a small team of paid staff to delegate and build power; and
  • Believe in nonviolent direct action as a means to create change.

A strong applicant might have a few of the following as well (but please don’t feel like you need to check all or even any of these boxes to apply):

  • A wide network of community, faith, and civic groups and leaders in Philadelphia;
  • Experience working in senior leadership of corporations;
  • Experience running corporate-focused campaigns;
  • An understanding of Quaker values and culture; and
  • Communications skills, from media work to web design.

Location: Philadelphia-based, home office
Reports to: The Board of Directors
Salary: $55,000

Benefits: 4 weeks paid vacation + 10 paid sick days + stipend of $500/mo for health insurance. We hope this will increase over time, as fundraising increases and more staff are brought on board. As a very small organization, we cannot easily get health insurance for staff at a cost we can afford. Therefore, we have chosen to provide a stipend of up to $500 that an employee can use to purchase health insurance through the state health insurance exchange.

EQAT believes that in order to truly protect our planet and make a just transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy in a way that advances racial and economic justice for low-income communities and communities of color, we need people from all backgrounds. Because of this, we’d especially like to encourage people who come from communities that are often unacknowledged in the environmental justice movement -- communities of color, women, people with disabilities, and others -- to bring your experience to this role. EQAT does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, or religion.

If you have questions about the role, please nd we’d be happy to set up a time for you to speak with one of our Board members or active volunteers.

To apply, please use the form below (via Recruiterbox) to send us a cover letterthat specifically emphasizes why you think you’d be excellent in this role, as well as a resume.Applications are dueJune 5th at 11:59pmPacific Time.

A non-profit is looking for someone to work part time (3 days a week). We are looking for someone who has experience working in the Philadelphia school district. The candidate needs to be familiar with the type of population we serve which consists of kids who have experienced loss, trauma, major life changes, foster care and things of that nature which can be quite challenging. The social worker we are looking to hire will run groups related to issues such as anxiety, grief and loss, life change, adolescent girls groups for example and then the other half of the day will provide one on one support for students. The groups are not set in stone, they are developed with the principal and school counselor along with our social worker that we put in the school in order to provide the support where it's most needed. We have a curriculum and activities that we use and we do not work with children who have behavioral issues who cannot be an active participant of the group.

The hours are school hours (8:30-3) and we work with elementary and middle school students. The person we hire will be an independent contractor and will not be bogged down with writing progress notes. It's really ideal for someone who wants to "do the work" without having all the agency paperwork.
We are looking to hire someone who has the right kind of experience, can work independently and be flexible (in terms of what may happen in the course of the day) and someone who has patience and empathy for this population.

Mathematica Policy Research

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR Program Analyst – Health Policy

We currently have openings for program analysts in the health research division in our Cambridge (MA), Ann Arbor (MI), Washington (DC), and Chicago (IL) office locations. As a program analyst you will manage projects, coordinate project activities, and provide logistical, operational, and analytical support to our research teams. We offer employees a stimulating, team-oriented work environment, competitive salaries, and a comprehensive benefits package, as well as the benefits of employee ownership. We provide three weeks of paid time to start and an on-site fitness center at most locations.

Program analysts in the health research division work on projects that touch virtually every area of the healthcare delivery system in the United States. Broadly guided by the triple aim (improving individual care, improving population health, and reducing cost) of the Affordable Care Act, our projects include large evaluations of demonstration projects sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, technical assistance to state and federal partners to improve program operations, and database development for the Social Security Administration, among many others.

Program analysts manage and support the operations of these projects in Mathematica’s health division. They work closely with project directors and task leaders to develop and implement processes and systems that ensure the quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness of client deliverables. While they may engage in research activities such as conducting interviews and performing literature reviews, the program analyst is not a research, programming, or systems engineering position. Rather, they contribute to the efficient and successful operations of projects, both internal and external, through the broadest possible range and application of problem-solving and interpersonal techniques.

The program analyst position has a defined career trajectory with significant potential for movement within Mathematica. Regardless of their specific assigned role on any given project, program analysts are expected to be leaders both within the context of the project and across the company. Successful health program analysts fulfill a broad array of roles at Mathematica and commonly:  Provide the energy, direction, and organization needed to help keep research projects on time and on budget by serving as a central hub of project activities. Program Analysts offer a full suite of project management support services, from helping project directors plan, procure, manage, and close out complex projects, to designing and implementing tools and processes to help organize data and mange teams.
