Post title: English Tutor

(GCSE / Functional Skills / ESOL)

Based at: Duchy College and Saltash College

Reports to: Team Lead - English

Grade/salary scale: £23,156.00 – £24,771.00 per annum

Generic role of post:

The Tutor will prepare and deliver English qualifications to a range of learners as part of their programme of study. Delivery of GCSE and/or Functional Skills and/or ESOL qualifications will be required. The post holder will work with colleagues to ensure that all learners requiring English provision are guided to the most appropriate qualification and level.

Specific duties:

  1. Assist in maintaining a positive culture encouraging the development of English amongst staff and learners
  2. Assist with interviewing, assessing and inducting learners
  3. Prepare and deliver English provision leading to discrete and/or embedded qualifications
  4. Deliver education and training and assessment in line with College and awarding body requirements
  5. Produce and develop high quality teaching and learning materials using a variety of methods
  6. Attend relevant course team and departmental meetings
  7. Attend corporate meetings to improve best practice across the whole college
  8. Complete CPD as appropriate to remain up to date in subject specialism and learning and teaching
  9. Any other duties consistent with the general responsibilities of the post as may be required from time to time in addition to those listed above. This can include cover for absent colleagues
Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential:

·  An appropriate Teacher Education qualification / or working towards

·  Level 5 CPD Numeracy or Degree level qualification in English / or working towards

Desirable:

·  Other qualifications relevant to subject specialism

Experience

Essential:

·  Successful teaching experience in this curriculum area, ideally in a variety of settings (college, community and workplace)

·  Ability to identify and support learners with differing needs

·  Ability to manage diverse groups of learners in varying environments

·  Ability to encourage learners and promote the importance of English

·  Seriously committed to quality delivery of education and training and be an active communicator with the ability to interact with a broad community of learners and peers.

If the role requires a staff member to use their own vehicle there is a legal requirement to hold business use category on their motor insurance policies.
