Self Help Services is a user led mental health charity that has developed considerable expertise in the field of primary care mental health. The charity currently delivers a range of services including self help support groups, etherapy services, counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and our new overnight crisis support service, The Sanctuary. The charity is funded by various NHS Trusts and works across the North West with the head office based in Hulme, Manchester.

In April 2014, we will be launching an innovative new project to develop a multi-agency approach to improving services for people with personality disorders. The service, commissioned by NHS Salford Clinical Commissioning Group, aims to develop strong seamless links between mental health services and the wider multi-agency system for the benefit of people with Personality Disorder (PD) by undertaking a liaison, training and awareness-raising function with key stakeholders (i.e. Police, Probation, A&E, Housing, Drug and Alcohol services, Children’s Services etc). The service will specifically work to:

  • Improve service user experience
  • Engage ‘experts by experience’ in training and awareness-raising activity with multi-agency representatives across public services.
  • Challenge stigma and discrimination; improve attitudes and increase knowledge and awareness of PD in the wider system.
  • Reduce transition in people with PD to more costly and intensive services such as secondary mental health care/prisons.
  • Develop workforces to become more responsive to personality disorder by providing leadership and support in the development of service specific projects.
  • Develop peer support services/networks in order to provide non-clinical support around PD

We are looking for motivated and experiencedindividuals to coordinate the delivery and development of the Personality Disorder Multi-Agency Development Service. The post holders will develop and launch the Personality Disorder Multi Agency Development service; recruit and train ‘experts by experience’ to deliver awareness training to multi-agency representatives (PD Champions) across public services; coordinate and/or deliver a programme of development, awareness raising and training provision across agencies.

The successful candidates will have excellent insight into the issues faced by people with personality disorder (ideally from personal experience), be highly motivated with the ability to organise and prioritise their own workload and be able to work collaboratively with ‘experts by experience’ and multi-agency practitioners to improve the sexperience of services among people with personality disorder.

Self Help Services can provide excellent opportunities for ongoing personal and professional development through regular supervision and training opportunities.Self Help Services positively welcomes applications from people with personal experience of mental health problems.
