Definition

·  Brady Lane Church’s next generation is defined as newborn through college age students and their families.

Personal Qualifications

·  Must love students, and have a desire to lead them to know Jesus, and grow in their knowledge and understanding of God’s Word.

·  Ability to maintain confidences concerning congregational matters and finances.

·  Ability to communicate and interact well with students and parents.

·  Ability to schedule and manage events effectively.

·  Ability to recruit, schedule and manage volunteers effectively.

·  Must be a motivated, self-starter whose devotion to God is contagious.

·  Must have the ability and desire to share your faith with students and adults.

Computer Skills

·  Must be able to navigate and maintain announcements on Facebook page of the youth and communicate any updates for the church website to the Office Manager.

·  Ability to learn and navigate church related software.

Summary of Immediate Responsibilities

·  Equip and lead servant leaders in providing a Sunday school class with appropriate and relevant Bible study for Brady Lane Church’s next generation.

·  Equip and lead servant leaders in providing vibrant and relevant programs that are based in Biblical teaching and worship (Examples: wee worship, junior church, Sunday night youth group, college life groups, etc…).

·  Present activities and service projects that are both fun and teach the students that service is expected in their Christian Walk.

·  Plan, prepare, and equip volunteers to carry out outreach events either on our campus – in the community - or both (Examples: VBS, Easter events, etc…).

·  Participate and equip volunteers to lead at least one trip to High School Youth conference. (i.e. – CIY MOVE, ICYC, etc.)

·  Participate and equip volunteers to lead at least one trip to a Jr. High Conference. (i.e. – CIY Believe, CIY MIX, etc.)

·  Equip and lead servant leaders in presenting a relevant and spiritual Bible based lesson and worship for children in Jr. Church (1-5 Grades) in the 9am service and also in the 11:00 service.

·  Equip and lead servant leaders in presenting a relevant and spiritual Bible based lesson and worship for children in Wee Worship (Pre-K and K) in the 9am service and also in the 11:00 service.

·  Equip and lead servant leaders in providing a loving and vibrant Nursery during all three hours - 2 worship services and Sunday school.

·  Recruit and equip new volunteers as they are needed or make themselves known.

·  Communicate and work with Good Shepherd to coordinate schedules and events.

·  Choose and implement new curriculum as needed with the guidance and approval of the Senior Minister.

·  Monitor programming to ensure a balance between spiritual, physical, and social growth of our students.

·  Meet with Senior Minister and the rest of the staff weekly at staff meeting and attend staff retreat in October.

·  Participate in the pastoral care over the congregation in concert with the
Senior Minister and elders, focusing on Brady Lane Church’s next generation families.

·  Maintain regular office hours that are both coordinated with the other church staff and also serve the next generation group’s needs.

Leadership Goals

·  Lead by example…live a life above reproach.

·  Communicate often and early – communication is a must.

·  Love your volunteers – take care of them and encourage them.

·  Be a team player.

·  Mentor others as you have opportunity as the next church leader could be serving on your team.

·  Network with other churches next generation programs for ideas and advice.

·  Set goals with team members, and hold them accountable to their responsibilities.

·  Confront conflict within your ministry following the described method in Matthew 18.

·  Become familiar with employee handbook.

Personal Goals

·  GROW UP in Jesus – Giving, Relationship, Outreach, Word of God, Upward (worship), and Prayer…again set the example for others by doing it.

·  Protect your ministry by avoiding even the appearance of impropriety. Make sure you are never alone with a student and never transport a student alone home or to any other location. For counseling of children or families, we will refer our families to professionals in our community.

·  Pursue some type of continuing education/conferences to enhance Biblical knowledge and understanding.

Diplomacy

·  Communicate with other staff members regularly to avoid scheduling or programming conflicts.

·  Solicit programming ideas from your team members and also communicate with staff and elders for ideas – you do not have to use every idea you get, but opening up to others ideas will strengthen yours.

·  Communicate with Office Manager for any printing or materials needed to facilitate your ministry.

·  In the community remember you now represent Brady Lane Church, be an ambassador for God wherever you go!

Outreach and Goals for the Future

·  It is the desire of the leadership for our youth programs to grow not just in numbers but spiritually as well. Some future goals that the leadership of Brady Lane Church would like to see us strive for are as follows.

o  Well attended Sunday Morning programming.

o  Well attended Sunday Night programming.

o  Opportunities for our students to attend a weekend conference, week-long conference or retreat.

o  Serve our church sponsored camp and encourage our next generation in participation.

o  Events that attract families from the community.

The Next Generation Director serves under the oversight of the Eldership and reports to the Senior Minister. This position also requires interaction with other staff members, and also with the Chairman of the Elders and the Leader of the Finance Team. The Next Generation Director is subject to all policies as outlined in the staff handbook.
