Job purpose
To lead the planning and organising to support the delivery of Wessex Institute contracts, NETS programmes and objectives. You will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure that the programmes continue to meet their needs.

1.  / To Lead the management and responsibility for delivery of agreed Wessex Institute activity, ensuring plans complement and support the Wessex Institute objectives of relevance, scientific rigour and values.
To lead in the delivery of effective and efficient activities including oversight of the development and review of policies and standard operating procedures to ensure an ethos of quality assurance and excellence. / 20%
2.  / Lead on strategic business planning and performance monitoring of delivery within specified area of research management process. / 20%
3.  / Using substantial professional and/or specialist knowledge and experience to analyse and report on research management activity and strategic issues affecting the delivery of the wider NETS or Wessex Institute objectives. Areas may include implementation of Operational Excellence or contributing to NIHR strategic priorities
To provide lead advice on the analysis and interpretation of information/data including metrics that support wider NETS or Wessex Institute performance indicators
To coordinate the preparation of reports and lead on providing feedback to stakeholders / 20%
4.  / Leading on people management, including workforce planning, recruiting, development and staff appraisal to ensure the successful and efficient delivery of the programme. / 20%
5.  / To work closely with other Senior Research Managers to ensure delivery of Wessex Institute and area-specific objectives, developing new /improved systems as required.
Engage widely with professional groups and networks externally in identifying areas for research.
Develop and maintain good links with key stakeholders of Wessex Institute programmes. / 15%
6.  / Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder / 5%

Internal:
Members of Wessex Institute and NETSCC senior management teams
Liaising with other parts of NIHR, , UoS and representing Wessex Institute as required
External:
Managing relationships with external stakeholders for Wessex Institute, which could include Researchers, the Department of Health or Senior Clinicians

Qualifications, knowledge experience / Skill level equivalent to achievement of a professional qualification or postgraduate degree.
Proven experience of managing strategic and operational business planning
Proven experience of managing complex projects within a health, social care or research environment
Proven people management skills.

Able to appreciate University priorities and to apply these in managing work outcomes
Understanding of the health and social care landscape
Fully conversant with Microsoft Office suite. / A professional qualification or postgraduate degree in the health, social care research management field
Awareness of the NIHR infrastructure and policy context
