Job purpose
The Wessex Institute manages a number of contracts totalling £14.5m per year including, the NIHR, Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC), the Southampton Health Technology Assessment Centre (SHTAC), the NIHR Dissemination Centre all with the Department of Health and a contract providing support to the Welsh Government’s (H&CRW) Research for Patient and Public Benefit Programme.
Accountable to the Finance Manager, the post holder will support the work of the Finance & Contracts Team and work closely with those who fund the programmes and those who carry out research in order to ensure effective delivery of the finance and contracts service.
Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities / % Time /
1.  / Lead on all day-to-day financial processing within Wessex Institute including placing of orders and paying suppliers. Carry out effective record keeping for audit purposes. / 60
2.  / Act as the main point of contact for NETSCC staff in order to answer queries with regard to expense claims, booking venues, paying referees and provide support for other financial processing matters. This will involve a proactive method of working, as well as the ability to suggest appropriate solutions to problems. / 15
3.  / Maintain a set of relevant Agresso reports to support key decision making for budget holders and Finance team colleagues. / 10
4.  / Extract data from the Agresso system to provide information on expenditure and income on ad hoc basis. / 5
5.  / Provide support to other members of the team in carrying out administrative tasks in relation to funded research projects. / 5
6.  / Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder. / 5

·  Proficient in the use of standard MS Office software, MS Excel in particular; good keyboard skills; good use of email systems and databases; good use of internet
