Job purpose
To ensure the provision of effective and efficient technical support to the Silicon Photonics Research Group, mainly on the photonic device fabrication utilising the cleanroom facilities. Operation of the related equipment in the cleanroom, and resolving technical issues associated with the fabrication processes.
Fixed term, 3 year appointment.
Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities / % Time /
1.  / To assist in fabrication of photonic devices and carry out processing in the cleanroom facilities, including photolithography, wafer cleaning, plasma etching and deposition, etc. / 65 %
2.  / To carry out testing, analysis and evaluation of the fabrication processes, contributing to the development and optimisation of processing recipes. / 10 %
3.  / To assist in writing all documentation, reports and records related to fabrication and process development. / 5 %
4.  / To advise on the pricing and purchasing of equipment and consumables, ensure adequate stocks of supplies, and assist in efficient and appropriate use of cleanroom resources. / 5 %
5.  / To train students and researchers the fabrication processes, and the safe and effective use of the related equipment. / 5 %
6.  / To assist in the effective implementation of Health and Safety policies for laboratories / 5%
7.  / Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder. / 5 %

·  Direct responsibility to the leader of the Silicon Photonic Research Group.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Criteria / Essential / Desirable / How to be assessed
Qualifications, knowledge and experience / Skill level equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, NVQ3 with proven work experience in relevant technical support roles and job-related training.
Good understanding of technical processes and cleanroom equipment, such as photolithography, plasma tools, and wet chemical processing.
Ability to make effective use of standard office software tools, including word-processing and spreadsheets. / Relevant Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent qualification or experience).
