Job purpose
Independently manage a highly specialised case load of deaf children who attend AIS for assessment and ongoing support and intervention. Home, school and nursery visiting will be required over a large geographical area in the South of England. Maintenance, support and management of cochlear implants and radio aids.

1.  / Clinical
·  Select and utilise the appropriate tools to carry out specialised professional assessments of patients under the care of the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service.
·  Communicate the results of the assessments within the team, to the referring agency, patients and local professionals
·  Devise, negotiate, implement and evaluate appropriate habilitation plans for patients and their families, ensuring individual needs are met.
·  Deliver training events for local professionals and families as part of AIS team
·  Awareness of procedures for auditing outcomes in children / 85%
2.  / Research
Sustain a personal research portfolio and apply research evidence and knowledge to ensure best practice. / 10%
3.  / Teaching
Support teaching activities of the Hearing and Balance Centre and AIS, as required, which may include teaching local professionals and/or students at the university. / 5%

·  Responsible via Head of AIS to Associate Dean for Enterprise
·  Multi professional working on and off site including hospitals, other services and patients’ homes.
·  Liaison with national interest groups

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications, knowledge & experience / Qualified teacher of the deaf
Substantial post qualification experience as teacher of the deaf – able to demonstrate competence in assessment of and support for deaf children.
Experience of working with cochlear implants
Commitment to developing skills in the fitting of assistive listening devices with cochlear implants.
Disseminate knowledge of the above to local professionals eg local teachers of the deaf/support staff / Demonstrable experience of undertaking research and utilising in practice.
Commitment to diversity and equality
Experience of working with pre-school early years children
Experience of peripatetic work
