BL&P 2012 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP)

In recent times the energy landscape inBarbados has changed significantly and weexpect even greater changes in the comingyears.

At The Barbados Light & Power Co. Ltd.(BL&P), we are preparing for our next phaseof generation replacement and expansion. Weare seeking to do this in a way that will help toachieve the best energy solution forBarbados.

We have embarked on an Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) process to help us determinethe optimum plan to meet customers’ shortand long-term electricity requirements. Thisplan will focus on how energy and services can be reliably provided at the least possiblecost to customers.

So what exactly is an IRP?

An IRP:

Is a long-term expansion plan ( 20 to30 years)

Considers all resources

  • Supply-side: Electricity generatingtechnologies
  • Demand-side: Energy efficiencyor other measures which modify consumer demand

Identifies ‘optimum’ electricity expansionplan to meet future national electricityrequirement in an affordableand reliable manner
