This 5-year, NIH-funded study investigates the effect of a low glycemic index diet during the last half of pregnancy upon health parameters and birth outcomes in obese pregnant women. The majority of subjects are low-income, Spanish-speaking pregnant women recruited from San Francisco General Hospital. In my position within this study, I:

  • Recruit and retain potential subjects for clinical nutrition study through interviews and informative presentations.
  • Schedule and oversee medical and nutrition appointments in diverse high-pressure environments.
  • Determine compliance with prescribed diet through telephone screenings using NDS software.
  • Maintain extensive database of appointments, contact information, and study data.
  • Administer clinical tests to enrolled subjects.
  • Design and implement protocol changes.
  • Coordinate study personnel.
  • Communicate regularly with all subjects enrolled in study.
  • Provide extensive administrative support and transportation to study personnel.
  • Use Spanish >70% of the time in this working environment.
