GOALS
Learning Outcomes:
Studio Art 11 or Studio Art 12 / In Studio Arts 11 and 12, the goals are to:
  • perceive and respond to art using image-development and design strategies
  • create original art and communicate with original artwork using image-development and design strategies
  • perceive and respond to the context of artwork
  • create and communicate with original artwork that reflects personal contexts
  • understand and use the Elements and Principles of Art
  • analyse how materials, technologies, and processes enhance art perception and art response
  • use a variety of materials, technologies, and processes to create and communicate through original art forms

ASSESSMENT
Here are some examples of portfolio submissions that will help the art support teacher/supervisor assess your work. If desired, you may add other samples that you would like to send in as portfolio evidence! Keep in mind that this course involves a minimum of 100 hours of work. / Major Portfolio Evidence (Hand in 8-10 major assignments during the course of the year. A major assignment would be a robust piece of classical (non-electronic media) visual art involving at least 10 to 20 hours of focused attention. Please note that Studio Art 11/12 level portfolio evidence should demonstrate considerable critical thinking, creativity, craft, research, and attention to the principles of art and design.Below is a sample Studio Art Art portfolio marking rubric:
20% Art Diary and Sketches (20 hours)
15% Colour Mixing / Acrylic Paints (14-16 hours)
15% Self-Portrait (14-16 hours)
10% Scratch Art (12-14 hours)
10% Pen & Ink (12-14 hours)
10% 3-D Canadiana (10-12 hours)
10% A Personal Visual Statement (10-12 hours)
10% Self-Evaluation This is the portion of the grade you or your parent/guardian will assign for your faithfulness in completing everyday work. It will also include small assignments that you may be working through in preparation for your major portfolio evidence. This grade is assigned at the end of the course.
