ASSEMBLIES AND COLLECTIVE WORSHIP POLICY

AIMS

To provide a broad and balanced programme for pupils spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

To ensure the school meets the statutory requirements and fulfils its responsibilities in terms of collective workshop.

OBJECTIVES

1.To have a planned programme of assemblies throughout the year.

2. To ensure that there is a variety of events and issues covered.

3.To ensure the pupils have received a spiritual, moral dimension to their education that supplements learning taking place in class.

4.To develop tolerance and knowledge of different cultures across society.

Collective Worship takes place on a daily basis at PenkethCommunityPrimary School. The Programme in Appendix 1 provides all the details of this. The plan in Appendix 2 shows the sub themes and events covered during the course of the year.

Collective Worship and assemblies are an ideal opportunity to develop the culture and ethos of the school. To ensure that the main aims and objectives are taught to the pupils and learned by them. Collective Worship will take the form of school prayer or other appropriate prayer and time for reflection, dependant upon the theme of the assembly. A school hymn will also generally follow the theme and discussion or story to illustrate an important point that is to be taught. Pupil participation is an important aspect of the assemblies, especially to help develop the skills of speaking and listening. The format of these assemblies will also be followed in the class based assembly where there is an ideal opportunity to discuss, with the class, a theme or topic being covered in that week.

1. To ensure the statutory requirements of daily collective worship take place.

2. To plan, prepare the programme of collective worship across the school.

3.To monitor this takes place.

4. To ensure that parents are aware of their right to withdraw pupils from collective worship

Subject leaders for RE and PSHE

1. To advise on the content of the assemblies

Class teachers

1. To ensure that class based collective worship and assemblies take place.

2. To be in whole school assemblies.
