Club History

The Club was founded in 1922. We were lucky with the site chosen, we like it so much we have not moved! Our name is taken from the Earl of Pembroke who owned a large tract of land in the Sandymount area south of Dublin.

Our grounds are only one and a half miles from the city centre, in the shadows of the Aviva stadium (the old Lansdowne Road), headquarters of the Irish Rugby Football Union and the adopted home of our national soccer team. We are surrounded by a plethora of sporting clubs and facilities, which must make the Sandymount/Ballsbridge area one of the most densely populated sporting suburbs in the world!

Whoever was responsible for christening our Club “Wanderers” must have known that over the years many trips, both competitive and friendly would be undertaken by the players.

The most recent achievements which involved travel have been for the Men’s 1st XI competing in the European Cup Winners Cup in Prague in 2007 and the Ladies 1st XI competing in the same competition in Ghent in 2008.

When our intrepid band of nomadic supporters was added to the players & officials, there were in excess of 90 Wanderers in Prague, about 75 in Rome & Vienna & 80 odd in Zurich.
