Job Description:Communications and Marketing Officer

1. Job Purpose:

Pelican Cancer Foundation is looking for an exceptional person to help us tell the world about our charity and its tenth anniversary. This is a very exciting opportunity, the post holder is responsible for the design and production of the charity’s external written communications – this includes regularly updating the website and social networking sites and developing external literature – newsletters and leaflets about the charity.

2. Employment

6 month contract to promote the charity’s 10th Anniversary but may be extended to a permanent post.

Part time – 20 hours per week

Based in The Ark, Dinwoodie Drive, Basingstoke RG24 9NN

Salary £18,000 – £24,000 pro rata depending on experience

3. Key Responsibilities:

This is an interesting and varied role working to support the communications and marketing of an exceptional medical charity.

Written Materials

Main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Write, edit and coordinate production of external literature, in particular
  • a booklet to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the charity
  • newsletters
  • fundraising literature

This will include writing, gathering material, design, proof reading and liaising with printers.

  • Work with the fundraising team for preparation of mailing lists
  • Maintaining the communications database and record
  • Other duties that may be assigned from time to time
  • Provide regular reports for Chief Executive.

Website

  • Maintain the content of the charity website as a communication tool
  • Ensure content is kept up to date
  • Co-ordinate electronic communications to donors and supporters

Fundraising

  • Work with the fundraising team on promotion of events and campaigns
  • Develop a close working relationship to support fundraising activity

Other

  • Comply with Charity Law and in line with Pelican’s values
  • Keep records of all activity
  • Prioritise and plan workload
  • Undertake work as requested by the Chief Executive
  • Participate in staff meetings and activities
  • There will be a performance management review after the initial two months
  • Ensure adequate cover for responsibilities when absent

EAbility to produce marketing material, from inception to completion or able to demonstrate strong transferable skills

DPrevious experience of communications and marketing

EKnowledge of websites and appropriate skills for updating and revising content

EExcellent computer skills, including all Microsoft packages and publishing software .
