Peer Educator Application and Program Timeline:

  1. Complete and submit your application to the Dean of Students Office or to the Wellness Center by October 31 at 11:59pm.
  2. Applications may also be submitted electronically, by sending your application via email to Ray or Katie .
  3. Applicants will be asked to attend an interview between November 1 to November 10, 2016.
  4. Selected applicants will be notified by Friday, November 17.
  5. All selected applicants will be required to attend a full day training(8:30am-5pm) during the Winter Break. Date and location of training will be provided at a later date.

Peer Educator Program Application Information:

UCCS PEAK Peer Educators are volunteers who work to increase the health and safety of UCCS’s campus. They are committed to making a difference in our community. We can only accept a limited number of students. We encourage you to be thoughtful and clear in communicating why you would be a good choice for the program. When filling out this application:

  • Please fill out the student information and answer all questions.
  • Respond to the questions using specific examples and experiences.
  • Be thoughtful with your responses to the questions
  • If you are submitting your application electronically, save your application as a Word Document, and re-title the file with your name and “PE Application” (Example: John Doe-PE Application)

MISSION
Peer Educators are a diverse group of UCCS students who work in conjunction with other university services to deliver preventative and holistic programs and events to fellow students. They are trained by specialists in topics such as alcohol and other drugs, sexual assault and sexual health, body image, nutrition, and wellness. The PEAK Peer Education program commits to four guiding principles: Promotion, Empowerment, Action, and Knowledge.

  • Promotion: To the promotion of wellness as a way of life and the services that support a culture of wellness on campus
  • Empowerment: To empower peers to make informed decisions about their own health behaviors and lifestyles
  • Action: To keep an action oriented philosophy, never staying stagnant or accepting current health trends as truths unable to change
  • Knowledge: To gain the knowledge required to create evidence-based, high quality and responsible programs, events, and initiatives, and to share this knowledge with others

EXPECTATIONS OF PEER EDUCATORS
PEAK Peer Educators agree to the following

  • Attendance at semester Training Days
  • Attendance all all weekly meetings (3 Unexcused absences)
  • Missed training sessions must be made up on own time
  • Notify advisors prior to missed meeting or training
  • Involvement in a minimum of 3 programs and events throughout the semester
  • Remaining in good academic standing (GPA above 2.5)
  • Participating in Save Act Training
  • HIPPA and FERPA training and attention to confidentiality & privacy when reporting or talking to individuals
  • Being a CSA (Campus Reporting Authority) on campus- reporting violence towards self or others (intended or otherwise), drug use, sexual assault, discrimination, and harassment
  • Consistently check email and respond to emails in a timely manner
  • Respectful behavior and abiding by university code of conduct at all times
  • Remaining alcohol and drug free 12 hours prior to an official event
  • While wearing official Peer Educator apparel, Peer Educators agree to consider themselves in an official Peer Educator role, and refrain from purchasing and/or using alcohol and other substances, breaking UCCS Code of Conduct, and behaving in a way that could diminish the Peer Educator mission or reputation on campus or in the Colorado Springs community in any way

*Failure to meet these expectations may result in member losing “active” status for a semester
