Explanatory notes
1Definition
Worksite requirements–refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer’s specifications, product quality specifications, legislative requirements.
2All work to be done in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.

Prepare to handle, move, and store glass manually.
Evidence requirements
1.1Glass is inspected for damage before handling, moving and storage and any damaged glass is removed to designated location in accordance with worksite requirements.
1.2Lifting gear selected meets requirements of glass in terms of size, weight, type of finish, and special characteristics of the glass.
Rangelifting gear may include but is not limited to – josters, vacuum lifters, straps or slings.
1.3Moving equipment selected meets requirements of the glass in terms of size, weight, type of finish, and special characteristics of the glass.
Rangemoving equipment includes but is not limited to – trolleys, retaining methods, provision for separation.
1.4Path for movement of glass is checked before moving begins in accordance with worksite requirements.
Rangepath check includes but is not limited to ensuring path – is wide and high enough for clear movement of the glass, leads to the required location, is free from obstructions or other hazards.
1.5Storage arrangements meet requirements of the glass in terms of size, weight, type of finish, and special characteristics of the glass.
Rangemay include but is not limited to – racks, supporting frames, pallets, trolleys.
1.6Assistance to move glass is arranged to ensure that the process can be completed in a controlled manner without danger to people in the workplace.

Evidence requirements
2.1Techniques used to lift and place glass are in accordance with worksite requirements and are appropriate for the size and weight of the glass.
2.2Protective clothing and equipment used is appropriate for the work and is used in accordance with worksite requirements.
2.3Selected lifting and moving equipment is used in accordance with worksite requirements.
2.4Glass is placed in storage or in the situation required by the next user without damage to the glass or the equipment, or danger to people in the workplace.
2.5Procedures used to load and unload glass, Insulating Glass Units, and glazing materials are in accordance with worksite requirements.
2.6Equipment used is checked on completion of work and is placed ready for reuse in accordance with worksite requirements.
Rangerequirements may include but are not limited to – fault reporting on vehicles used to carry glass, replacement of worn or damaged gear, location of equipment when not in use.
