ACQUISITION: Edward Moseth donated the original collection May 12 and August 4, 1989. Kathy Yance donated additional materials in 1992. The collection is ongoing. (Acc. nos. 1989-15, 1989-16, 1992-5)

COPYRIGHT: Request for permission to publish or reproduce material from the collection should be discussed with the Librarian.

PROCESSING: Items have been placed in Mylar and then into acid free folders. Photographs and slides are individually numbered within each folder. The collection has been described at the folder level.

HISTORICAL NOTE

The Coast Guard is an amalgamation of five Federal agencies...the Revenue Cutter Service, the Lighthouse Service, the Steamboat Inspection Service, the Bureau of Navigation, and the Lifesaving Service. It received its current name in 1915 when the Lifesaving Service and the Revenue Cutter Service merged. [From: U.S. Coast Guard, Historian's Office

SCOPE AND CONTENTS NOTE

An ongoing collection of U.S. Coast Guard activities in Alaska, primarily the 17th Division, which includes slides and photographs of patrol, search and rescue, the Exxon Valdez oil spill, law enforcement, lighthouses, Coast Guard vessels, icebreakers, bases, aircraft, Bering Sea fisheries, individuals. The folder titled Lighthouses (folder 5) contains a range of photos mostly from 1915-ca. 1930s. The bulk dates for the collection are the 1980s.
