Patterson PTA General Meeting Minutes 1/11/18

Meeting called to order by Megan Fastabend at 9:35am.

Minutes were approved from November 8th, 2017

  • Rita Malloy started a motioned, Colleen Garrison seconded the motion to approve the minutes

VP Administration

  • Winter parties are a success
  • Sock Hop party is busy meeting and planning for February

VP Finance

  • Restaurant Nights
  • December Oberweis not a huge success due to cancelled chorus concert, but still a little money
  • Waiting on the Jet’s money from December night
  • 1/25/18 – Sharko’s 20%
  • 2/6/18 – Potbelly 25%
  • 2/19/18 – Yogurt Beach 40%
  • 3/8/18 – Traverso’s 20%
  • 3/20/18 – Chipotle 50%
  • Square One – working on artwork and needs to ship by 2/19/18
  • Order packets 3/5/18, deadline is 3/19/18
  • 4/9/18 – artwork arrives to the school
  • Spirit Wear – we received $4.10
  • Box-tops $1056.60 check received

VP Enrichment/Social

  • Community service – giftmart brought in 50 toys from Patterson and each family got 3 gifts this year
  • Next event after Jump Rope for Heart, possibly Bernie’s Book Drive
  • Reflections district level recognition ceremony on 2/1/18
  • State and National announcements to be made later this month
  • Cultural night on 2/23/18 – formed a committee for food, dancing, entertainment, etc.
  • Theme is “Move and Groove Around the World”
  • Trying to get businesses in to do activities/performances at the event – so far Irish dancing, karate, and would love any other contributions
  • Doing passports for students to build excitement about the event and get more families to come
  • Science Fair 3/7/18 – Carrie is meeting with them to make sure they on track
  • Looking for judges for this event
  • STEAM Day 3/9/18 – finalizing instructors this week
  • February 5th or 12th getting information home about the event
  • Meeting with Mrs. Beedles for the logistics
  • Spring Family Fun
  • Early April timeline
  • Roller Skating again this year

President

  • Teacher enrichment requests to be sent out to teachers who are PTA members
  • Paid our taxes
  • IPPC report – Last meeting was in November
  • coat drive was a success
  • monthly community meetings (Engage 204) are starting up again
  • Reflections was the main topic of that meeting in November
  • Vaping discussion to be aware of methods of how students use the vaping devices
  • Common Sense Media website a good resource for parents
  • Orange ruler package ideas
  • Option One - Academic items, Gaga Pit, and 25th Anniversary, and mostly full LMC
  • Option Two - Academic items, Gaga Pit, and 25th Anniversary, partial LMC, and reserves

Principal’s Report

  • Pay attention to s’more for information on how to find school closings
  • Winter bench-marking is starting up for monitoring kids’ progress in the fall and winter to see what is needed for the students and one
  • March is when PARCC testing starts
  • No School MLK Day, 1/15 and there’s a teacher institute day on 1/16
  • Phil Boyte – author and speaker is presenting to the teachers on institute day about school culture and creating a positive environment
  • February 13th is Jump Rope for Heart
  • Sock hop and Friendship parties on the 16th
  • Robotics tournament – six teams compete on 2/24
  • Board of Education news - boundary changes approved but don’t impact us

Spending Requests for Orange Ruler

  • 1st grade – 3 classroom amplification systems $124 a piece at a total of $372
  • Speech teachers – attending a conference and getting screening devices $278 and will help children who cannot pronouncer the “r” sound who often do not get services from the current system
  • LMC - $3734.40 for 4 new square/squiggle tables and more flexible chairs
  • Music - $229 for ukulele cases for the existing ukuleles since the boxes are falling apart
  • PA – $520 to attend IAGC conference and membership to IL gifted organization – conference is in February so not enough time to approve for this year, so could be approved for next year?
  • Kindergarten – $595 Jolly phonics smartboard software/site license – lifetime usage
  • Gym installed sound system - $9000 or a portable system for $1300
  • Chorus concert, science fair, cultural night, school assemblies, orange ruler
  • Gaga Pit for the playground $1440-$2000
  • Electronic sign for out front – $10,000-$13,000
  • 25th Anniversary Funds $2500
  • Reserve fund vote for the sound system or sign out front to start saving for a large expenditure so it doesn’t have to hit the budget all in one year
