INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. The Holy Spirit performs works that are similar to that of the Father and Son, confirming the personality of the Spirit. Identify these works: (HINT: each blank is a verb)

The Spirit ______(John 14:6, 26)

The Spirit ______(John 15:26)

The Spirit ______(John 16:13)

The Spirit ______(John 16:8)

The Spirit ______(Ezek. 36:25-27; Titus 3:5)

The Spirit ______(Rom. 8:26)

The Spirit ______(Acts 13:2,4; 16:6; 8:29)

  1. Given that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer, do you feel empowered to achieve the goals (Galatians 5:22?) established for the Christian life? Why or why not?
  1. Aside from the passage in Ezekiel, other passages in the Bible indicate that the Spirit is the person of Trinity involved most in new starts. Creation (Gen. 1:2), Generating Christ (Matt. 1:20); inspiration of Scripture (2 Pet. 1:21); Regeneration (Titus 3:5); Sanctification (2 Thess. 2:13). Has the role of the 3rd person of the Trinity been under emphasized in the Church today? Why or why not?
  1. Prior to becoming a Christian, can you identify the time when the rûaḥ/pneuma blew in your direction, you heard it, and responded? Is there a time you can recall hearing, but ignored the prompting of the Spirit?
  1. The Spirit can be grieved (Isa.6:10) and blasphemed (Matt. 12:32; Mark 3:29-30). Provide either a Biblical or personal example of each of these. Is it possible for a believer to be guilty of either of these?
  1. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are defined by two words: pneumatikos(spiritual things)or charisma(grace gift). (Eph. 4:11-14; 1 Cor. 12:4-11; Rom. 12:6-8; 1 Pet. 4:11). Do you know what yours is? Ask another person in your group? If there is a difference of opinion, are you surprised?
