PARTY IN THE TOWN 2016: PERFORMER INFORMATION

What is Party in the Town?

Party in the Town is a brand new and exciting one-day festival in Totnes on Friday 27 May 2016. It is organised by Dartington Summer School & Festivalto celebrate the area’s musical talent and vibrant cultural scene. We want Party in the Town to showcase the huge variety of local musicians and performers in venues and spaces throughout Totnes.

Who is the event for?

Party in the Town is for everyone! As many musicians as possible are encouraged to express interest in the event by completingthe attached form. We want to fill the programme with a rich mix of performances and welcome applications from all types of musicians and performers. The first step in the process is to fill in the Party in the Town application form and email it to .

How does the event work?

The event will kick off at 6pm in St Mary’s Church on the High Street with the performance of a new piece written by star Brazilian percussionist and composer Adriano Adewale, performed by school children from across the local area. Then there will be free music and entertainment in venues and spaces across Totnes, finishing with a world-class headline act in the town centre.

We are busy getting venues on board to host performances. We will match musicians with venues and most performers will be offered a 20-25 minute set so that we can involve as many people as possible throughout the evening. This also means there will be a quick turnaround between sets and we ask that musicians provide as much of their own kit (instruments, stands and amps) as possible. Performers will be given their load-in time and line check times. Some venues have great sound systems, sound technicians, pianos and crew – a lot do not. The more willing and able you are to be self-sufficient, the better you chances of getting your ideal slot and venue.

If you are selected to perform, we will notify you of your venue and time slot via email. We will then put you in touch with your venue and arrange load-in times, tech specs and all the final details.

If you would like to arrange your own gig or have a place in Totnes that you play at, we would also be delighted to promote that as part of the event, as long as entry is free.

Will I get paid?

Unfortunately not. We want Party in the Town to be as inclusive as possible and for all events to be completely free entry. We don’t earn any income for the event to pay performers with.

We know Party in the Town will be really popular and we want to showcase all performers and help raise their profiles. Dartington Hall Trust is a registered charity and programmes, produces and promotes the night for free to the general public. Dartington Summer School’s marketing & PR team will be working to publicise performances as widely as possible, including promotion on the Dartington Hall Trust website, social media and a dedicated and widely distributed brochure for the event.

How do I get involved?

Please complete the attached form and return it to the contact details at the bottom of the form. We can’t wait to hear all about you!

The deadline for applications is29 January 2016 and we will be able to confirm whether we have a space for you in the programme by February 2016.
