CALL FOR APPLICATION FOR A 2-YEAR RESEARCHCAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM

The Partnership for Health Research and Training in Kenya (P-HERT) is a grant awarded to the University of Nairobiby the US National Institutes of Health.The aim of this grant is tobuild the capacity of Junior Faculty in the design and conduct of research with focus on HIV/AIDS, Mental Health, and Maternal Newborn Child Health. The grant will support a 2–year Research Capacity Building Program that provides in-depth training in Research Methods.

TRAINING PROGRAMOUTLINE

  • Inthe first year of the program, theJunior Faculty Trainees will undertake didactic and online courses at UoN and at the University of Washington to develop skills in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Implementation science and Responsible Conduct of Research.
  • In the second year, traineeswill be mentored to conduct aResearch project, disseminate study findings and use the pilot data to write and submit a grant for funding.

PRIORITY (TARGETED SCHOOLS/INSTITUTES/FACULTY)

Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing Sciences, Public Health, Institutes of Anthropology& Gender Studies (IAGAS),Population Studies and Research(PSRI) and the Faculty of Arts (Departments of Sociology & Economics)

ELIGIBILITY

  1. Formal appointment as academic faculty in UoNas Tutorial Fellow,Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, or Senior Lecturer.
  2. Master’s degree in Biomedical or Social Sciences.Tutorial Fellows must have completed their Master’s degree coursework and research dissertation
  3. Evidence of present or past involvement in research in any of the following areas: HIV/AIDS, Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and/or Mental Health.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Each candidate MUST be nominated by 2senior faculty members from theirrespective School/Faculty by completing and submitting the Faculty Nomination Form.
  2. The nominated candidates will then be required submit an application package that consists of:

  4. A letter of interest describing professional background, specific objectives related to training and career goals (200 -300 words)
  5. Curriculum vitae including a list of publications.
  6. Two letters of recommendation from Senior Faculty members who can attest to the applicant's academic, professional and research capabilities.
