PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Thanks to all our families for an amazing start to the school year and thanks for everyone’s patience and understanding with respect to re-organization. Other than our Special Education and Kindergarten classes, all classes were re-organized and our office team and all staff ensured a smooth transition for all students.

September has had lots of exciting activities for Plowman’s. We raised money for Terry Fox by collecting Toonies for Terry and on Terry Fox Hat Day. Students had a great time on the Terry Fox Walk/Run as well as starting every morning with Terry Fox Fitness Breaks. Students have been decorating bookmarks for donators to Plowman’s Park at Indigo Erin Mills and all students received books from My Very Own Book. Our September Respect assembly involved lots of student participation and I am really excited to have lunch with September’s Character Ticket winners, Tyler C. and

Braeden R. J We ended the month with Plowman’s Houses which was a great success!

Plowman’s Open House is Wednesday, October 4th from 6:30-7:30 pm and we are looking forward to seeing everyone that night. Wednesday, October 25th will be our first ‘Welcome Wednesday’ from

9-10 am. Parents and guardians will be invited to our Library Learning Commons to engage in sessions on a variety of topics such as literacy and numeracy tips, technology, and growth mindset. Families new to Plowman’s Park PS are encouraged to log on to the easy-to-navigate Remember Me website and create your child’s profile. If you are filing in the form to hand in to the office, please make sure to fill out all information on both sides of the paper with child’s name and teacher’s name.

Milk orders for the months of October and November can now be placed. If there are any questions or concerns about your child's milk order, please contact Marlene at RMI at 519-620-0303 extension 1 or you can email her at . We highly encourage putting your child’s milk order dates in their agenda to avoid disappointment so they are aware as to when they will be receiving their milk.

When a student receives a Character Ticket, they are placed in the Character Bucket for the monthly draw. Every month two names will be drawn and they will have a special lunch with Ms. Freemantle in her office J Our September winners were Tyler C. and Braeden R..

WE ARE BUCKET FILLERS AT PLOWMAN’S PARK!

We all carry an invisible bucket. This bucket contains our feelings. When our bucket is full, we feel great; when it’s empty, we feel empty. A bucket filler is someone who says or does nice things for other people. By doing this, they are filling other people’s buckets and filling their own bucket at the same time. We continue to promote the Peel Character Attributes of caring, honesty, inclusivity, respect, cooperation, and responsibility through our Bucket Filling and monthly Character Assemblies.

NEWS FROM MS. SPURGIASZ IN THE MUSIC ROOM

It’s been a great start to the year! We have already begun to make beautiful music with our voices and instruments. Glee Club auditions are underway for students in Grade 4-6 and choir will be starting very soon!

NEWS FROM MRS.PIECH IN THE GYM

Welcome back to a new school Year! Follow me on my Twitter account “Plowmans Gets Active” to keep up to date with all of the events going on in the gym.
The goal of the Physical Education program is for the students to experience the joy of movement, maintain and improve their physical fitness, and to understand and make healthy choices. We are already busy in the gym being active and getting fit. The first few weeks of Phys. Ed. class were spent participating in fitness activities and low organizational games. Students have been developing leadership and communication skills through a variety of games.
In instructional class time, the kindergarten and grade 1's are working on locomotor skills like running, jumping, etc., equipment skills using balls, beanbags and hoops. During October, grades 1's and 2's will begin catching and throwing balls at a target. In grades 3 and 4, the students work at improving their skills in a number of sport areas with a focus on soccer. In grades 5 and 6 the emphasis is on using the skills learned in game situations, while still working on self-improvement of soccer skills. At the completion of these units we will begin our first Health Unit on Personal Safety and Injury Prevention.
To give the students the opportunity to apply the skills learned in class, and to participate in more organized activities, there is an intramural program, which runs during lunch recess. Grade 3-6 students have an opportunity to join the Soccer League. Grade 3 and 4 students play at lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays in the gym. Grades 5 and 6 students play on Mondays and Thursdays on the outdoor field. Mrs. Prophet will be giving the grade 2’s the opportunity to play bench ball on Thursdays during lunch recess in the gym.
Students in Grades 3-6 are reminded that they require clean indoor running shoes, and comfortable clothing they can move freely in such as shorts and a T-shirt. Kindergarten and grade one and two students only require clean indoor running shoes.
How you play shows some of your character. How you win or lose shows all of it.
