PART1- GENERAL

1.01 INTENT

A.Theintentofthisspecificationistoprovidetheownerwithageneratorsetenclosure completeineverydetailandrequiringnoadditional in-fieldmodifications orassembly, except where specificallyallowedby these specifications.The enclosureis to be accurately dimensioned soastobeincompliancewiththeNationalElectricalCode (NEC), and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for clearance of all specifieditems includedtherein,and all applicablefire codesfor a structureand applicationofthistype.

B.Constructiondrawings,engineeringblueprints,orotherbiddocumentsaccompanying thesespecificationswhichshow switchgear, transferswitch(es),motorcontroller(s) and/orotherserviceordistributionequipmentwithinthegeneratorsetenclosuremust beconsideredcomplimentary toandnotinlieuofthiswrittenspecification.Drawings submittedforapprovalshallreflectthisfactclearlyandanycontradiction oromission shallbebroughttotheattentionof thedesigningengineerpriortoorder.

PART2–PACKAGEDGENERATORSET ENCLOSURE

2.01 WALLPANELS

A.TheweatherproofenclosureshallbeofformedG90 galvanizedsteel panelconstruction asdesigned andmanufactured byProfessional PowerProducts.Theenclosureshall containagalvanizedperforated liningontheinteriorofthewallpanelstocoverthe insulationandsoundabsorption materials.Theenclosure istoberatedforawindload of120MPH(150 MPHoptional)and50lbs./sqft roofload.Thebasicstructuremeetsall seismicrequirementsofZone4orequivalent.Thedesignandconstruction shallbe modularin thatthepanelsshallnotexceed36”inwidthandshallbeminimumthickness of0.1046”,12GA.Bolttogetherwallpanelsshallbepowdercoated(spray coatnot accepted) andshallhavegasketing betweeneachverticalseam. Allexterior componentsoftheenclosureshallbe assembledutilizingcorrosionresistantsteelbolts, nutsandlockwashers.Allseamsshallbesealedtopreventleaks.Theroofshallbe bolttogetherinconstruction soastoallownomorethantwomentoremoveindividual sectionstofacilitatelargecomponentremovalfrom aboveifneeded.

2.02 ROOF

A. Raintestequalto4 inches/hour.

B. The roofoftheenclosureshallmatch theminimumgaugerequirementsspecifiedforthe wallspreviouslybut,inaddition, shallbestrengthened insuchamannerastosupport thelargestcommercially availableexhaustsilencerrecommended bytheengine manufacturerforthisapplication.

C.Theroofshallbebolttogetherinconstruction soastoallownomorethantwomento removeindividualsectionstofacilitatelargecomponent removal fromaboveifneeded. Bolttogetherdesignandconstruction shallutilizeanexternalperimeterguttertodirect rainwaterwaytobothendsof theenclosureandawayfromalldoorsandlouvers.

2.03 DOORS

A. Doorsshallnotexceed36”inwidthanddoorskinshallbeaminimumof12gauge

construction.

B.Alldoorsontheenclosureshallbestrategicallylocatedinareasastoalloweaseof maintenanceon the generator set and allow sufficient access to and visibility of instruments, controls,enginegauges,etc.Thedoorsshallbefittedwithaheavyduty, fullheight,continuous gearhingeconcealedbetweenthedoorleafanddoorframe.No exterior hinges will be allowed. The hinge shall be made of corrosion resistant aluminumandshallutilizeNylonbearingsforlongevity.

A.Thedoorshallhavea3pointlatchingmechanismformaximumsealingtoframe gasketing. EachdoorshallbefittedwithpadlockableStainlessSteelhandles. The handle hardware shallallowescape fromwithinwhenlockedexternally byuseofan emergencyegress lever.Door holdopen hardwareshallbeprovidedtosecurethedoor totheenclosurewall,whenfullyopen,duringinstallationandmaintenance. Ifexterior wall mounted componentscanbedamaged fromfullopendoorswing,doorrestraint chainsshallbeprovidedtolimitthe doorrotationto110degrees.Alldoorsshallbefully gasketedtopreventleaks.Rainguards/gutters shallbeprovided aboveeachdoorand extend6”beyondthedooropening oneachside. Rainguards/gutters willbeshipped looseforonsiteinstallationtopreventpossibleshippingdamageduringtransit.

2.04 SOUNDATTENUATION

A.Adhered Foam insulation shall not be used in any situation. If a specific sound attenuationlevelisrequired,enclosure manufacture mustprovidesoundlevel calculations thattheoverallsoundlevelcanbemet(byOctavebandifrequired).The calculations shouldincludecertified soundtestreportsofwallpanelandsoundbaffling construction.

2.05 THERMALINSULATION

A.Theenclosure istobethermallyinsulated with gasketeddoors.Insulationmaterialisto befiberglassheldinplacewitha galvanizedperforatedmetalliner.Insulationshallhave nolessthanaR19rating.

2.06 AIRINTAKE

A.Alllouversshallbedesignedtohelpprevent theentranceofdriving rainwater,butshall havesufficientfreeareatoallowforengine-generatorcoolingairrequirements.

2.07 MOTORIZEDLOUVERS

A.Airintakeandexhaustlouversshallbeofaluminumorgalvanizedconstruction.The louversshallopenautomaticallyupondieselgeneratorstartandcloseupondiesel

generatorshutdown.Heavy-dutyscreensovertheintakelouversshallbeprovided. Motorizedintakelouversshallbe120VAC.Exhaustlouversshallgravitytype.

2.07 EXHAUSTSILENCER

A.Internal silencer shall be mounted by the packager according to manufacturer’s recommendations. Externalsilencershallbemountedatthejob-sitebytheinstalling contractorwhen the silencer is loose-shippeddue to height restrictionsin transit. Externalsilencersshallbepre-mountedandfitatthefactory beforeshipment.The silencershallbemountedsuchthatitsweightisnotsupported bytheenginenorwill exhaustsystemgrowthduetothermal expansionbeimposed ontheengine.Exhaust pipesizesshallbesufficienttoensurethatexhaustbackpressure doesnotexceedthe maximum limitations specified by the engine manufacturer. All interior piping and interiorexhaust partsshallbeprovidedwithanexhaust blankettoprotectusersfrom possibleburnhazards.

2.08 TAILPIPE

A.Eachsilencershallbefittedwitha90°tailpipeextension(elbow)terminatingina vertical position and, to prevent the entrance of rainwater, shall be fitted with a weighted,raincap.

2.09 RAINSKIRT

A.Atthepointwheretheexhaustpipepenetratestheroofoftheenclosure,a suitable“rain skirt”andcollarshallbeprovidedbythepackager. Itshallbedesignedtopreventthe entranceofrainyetallowforexpansion andvibration oftheexhaustpipingwithout chafingorstresstotheexhaustsystem.

2.10 WALKAROUNDPROVISIONS

B. MaintainallNEC-requiredworkingspaces,clearancesandaccess.Anaisle,atleast

24”wide,shallbeprovidedoneachsideofthegeneratorsetandanextra36”behind

thegeneratorsetshallbeincludedwherepossible.

2.11 OILRADIATORDRAINS

A.Allnecessaryfittings,hoses,shut-offvalves,etc.,shallbeprovidedbythepackagerto facilitatelubeoilandradiatordrainingthroughoneofthemandoorsoftheenclosure.In addition,enginesequippedwithcrankcasebreathertubesshallhavethis tubeterminate throughtheradiatorplenum.

2.12 ENCLOSUREFLOORING

A.Theflooroftheenclosureshallbedesignedandconstructedinsuchamannerasto prevent the entrance of rodents. This shall be accomplished with solid metal or “diamondplate”but,inanyevent, mustbecapableoffullysupporting anyancillary equipment specifiedwhichmay besecuredtoitplustheanticipatedweightof maintenancepersonnelandtheirtools.

2.13 SKIDBASEMOUNTING

A.Thegenerator setandenclosure shallbemountedandshippedtothecustomeronthe structuralsteelskidbasemanufacturedbythepackager.Provisionsfor craneunloading of thecompletepackageshallbedesignedintothebaseof theunit.

2.14 WEIGHT

A.Theweightoftheentireunitconsistingofgeneratorset,base,enclosureandother specifieditemsincludingshallbecalculated bythepackagerutilizingmanufacturer’s data.Thebaseoftheunitshallbedesignedand manufacturedasaheavyduty, structuralsteelconstructionwithliftingprovisionstosupportthecalculatedweight.

2.15 BASETANK

A.FuelOilStorage:Provideasub-basefueltankforthegeneratorsetofsufficientcapacity torun thegenerator foraminimumof10-hours.The sub-basefueltank shallbeUL142 listed and labeled. Installationshallbe incompliance toNFPA37. The siderailsofthe beamsmustbesandblastedtoaSSPC-5.“Tapetests”mustbemaintainedtoguarantee thequality ofthesandblastprocess. 3-5milpaintthicknessmustbeapplied totheentire base. The fuel tank shallbeadouble-walled,steelconstruction and include the following features:

1. Lockable FillCap

2. Emergencytankand basin vents.

3. Mechanicallevelgauge.

4.Fuelsupplyandreturnlines,connectedtogeneratorsetwithflexiblefuellinesas recommended by the engine manufacturer and in compliance to UL2200 and

NFPA37 requirements.

5.Leakdetectionprovisions,wiredtothegeneratorsetcontrolforlocalandremote alarmindication.

6. Lowlevelfloatswitchestoindicatefuellevel. Wireswitchestogeneratorcontrol

forlocaland remote indication of fuellevel.

7. Removable liftingprovisions

8.Aonepiecerainweldedrainskirtshallbeprovidedbetweenthetopofthebase tankand the enclosure wallpanels.

2.16 CONTAINMENTBASIN:

A. Theunitshallbeequippedwithafuelcontainmentbasinwithanormalcapacityof

110%ofthemainfueltankandshallbesuppliedwithaleakagedetectorswitchinthe basinandwiredto anindicatinglightonthegeneratorcontrolpanel.

2.17 PAINT

A.Thebasetankshallbepowdercoatedorprimepaintedwithaminimumoftwo(2)coats ofrust-inhibiting primerandfinishedwithaminimumoftwo(2)coatsofpolyurethane. Thebasetankshallbepowdercoatedorwetpaintedtomatchcolorof theenclosure.

2.18 LOWFUELINDICATOR

A.Thefueltankshallbefittedwithalowfuellevelalarm,whichshallbewiredtoan indicating lightonthegenerator controlpanelofthegenerator set.Thisswitchshall activatewheneverthefuellevelinthetank is 40%orlessremaining.

2.19 HIGHFUELINDICATOR

A.Thefueltankshallbefittedwithahighfuellevelalarm,whichshallbewiredtoan indicating lightonthegenerator controlpanelofthegenerator set.Thisswitchshall activatewheneverthefuellevelinthetank is 100%ormoreremaining.

2.20 RUPTUREBASINLEAKINDICATOR

A.Thefueltankshallbefittedwitharupturebasinleakalarm,whichshallbewiredtoan indicating lightonthegenerator controlpanelofthegenerator set.Thisswitchshall activatewheneverthefuellevelintherupturetank is 5%ormoreremaining.

2.21 INTERNALWIRING

A.Allwiringwithintheenclosureshallbeinconduitsmadefromrigidmetal,EMT,or liquid-tightmaterialspecifically manufacturedforelectricaluse.Allconnectionsatthe generatorsetshallbeflexible.Toavoidexcessiveconduitrunningthroughout the enclosure, awireraceway shallbeusedforallACandDCwiring.EMTConduitruns shallbeprovidedwhereneededsuchasdeparturesfrom thewire way.

2.22 LOADCENTER

A.Theenclosureshallbeequippedwith aSqD100amp120/208-volt3phase4wire load centerforthebatterycharger,jacketwaterheater(s),lighting,receptacles, etc.,as specified andasshownonthedrawings. Theloadcentershallbemountedwithinthe enclosureandallowforasingleentrypointforcommercial powersupply conduitand wiringbytheinstalling contractor.Theplacement ofthisloadcentershallbeshownon thesubmittaldrawings.All internalconduitandwiringto thevariousancillaryequipment suppliedwiththepackageandshallbepre-wiredbythepackagerin accordancewithall governingcodespursuanttothisapplication.Theloadcentershallbeconsideredas partoftheemergencyloadand shallderiveitspowersourcedownstreamfromtheload transferswitchspecifiedelsewhere.Ifastep-downtransformerisrequired,tobeplaced aheadofthisloadcenter,ittogetherwithaproperly sizedprotectivedeviceshallbe suppliedandinstalledbythepackagerwithintheenclosure.

2.23 INTERIORFLUORESCENTLIGHTING:(AC)

A.Two-tube, F32T8 fluorescent lights shall be installed within the enclosure and strategically locatedoneithersideofthegeneratorset.Theyshallbeceilingmounted andparalleltothelengthoftheunit.TheirACpowersourceshallbetakenfromthe

commercialpower supply at the job-site and wired-in by way of the load center specifiedelsewhere.Thelightswitchbox,locatedbyoneoftheentranceway doors, shallhave itsown-groundedduplexreceptaclemountedthereinforusebymaintenance personnel.

2.24 EXTERIORLIGHTING

A.Theenclosureshallbeequippedwitha70WHPSlightontheexteriorofthebuilding aboveeachdoor,wiredintothecommercial powersupplyloadcenter,andactivated automaticallybywayofaphotoelectriccellwhichwillswitch thelightonduring evening hoursandoffduring daylight hours.The fixtureforthelightshallbeofvandal-proof design,mountedaboveoneof thesidedoors.

2.25 EMERGENCYLIGHTING

A.Theenclosureshallbeequippedwith(2)dualheademergencylightswithbattery backuppowersupply,meetingUL924,NFPA101andOSHAilluminationstandards.

2.26 EXHAUSTFAN

A. Theenclosureis tobefitted witha 120-voltshuttermountedexhaustfanwithcontrol

2.27 SPACEHEATER

A.Theenclosureistobefittedwith(2)5kW,240V,singlephasespaceheaterscomplete witha thermostat.

2.28 CLEARANCE

A.Thebaseandenclosureassemblyshallallowroomwithinthepackagetomountand maintainthe specifiedbatterycharger,enginestartingbatteries,racksand cables,main linecircuitbreaker,engine-generator controlpanel,andotheritemsasspecifiedoras shownonthedrawings.

2.29 BATTERYTRAY

A. AbatterytrayshallbeprovidedforthebatteriesandshallconformtoNEC480-7 (b).Itshallbeconstructed andsotreatedastoberesistanttodeteriorationby batteryelectrolyte.Further,constructionshallbesuchthatany spillageorboil-over ofbatteryelectrolyte shallbecontainedwithinthetraytopreventadirectpathto ground.A separatetrayshallbeprovidedforeachbatterybankandplacedoneach sideoftheengineonalldualstartermotorequippedunits.

2.30 BATTERYCHARGER

A. A currentlimiting,automaticDCbatterychargershallbefurnishedto automatically re-chargethebatteries.

2.31 FIREDETECTIONANDSUPPRESSIONSYSTEMS

A. Availablefiresuppressionsystemoptionsaremicromist,CO2,orFE-227.

1. AMicromistfiresuppressionsystemshallbedesignedinaccordancewithNFPA

750. Itshallhave awater tankandnitrogencylinderthatareproperlysizedforthe enclosure. Thesystemshallhavethenecessary numberofweatherproof strobe/hornunits,manualpullstations,dischargenozzlesandheatdetectors.

2.ACO2firesuppressionsystemshallbedesigned inaccordancewithNFPA-12. It shallhave aCO2tankproperlysizedfortheenclosure. Thesystem shallhave the necessary numberofweatherproof strobe/horn units,manualpullstations, dischargenozzlesandthermaldetectors. ThesystemshallalsohaveUV/IR detectorsifrequired.

3. AFE-227firesuppressionsystemshallbedesignedinaccordancewithNFPA-

2001. Itshallhave aFE-227cylinderproperlysizedfortheenclosure. Thesystem shallhavethenecessarynumberofhorns,strobes,manualpullstations,discharge nozzles,IR detectorsandthermaldetectors.

2.32 GASDETECTIONSYSTEMS:

a. Providegas detectionsystemifrequired.

2.33 REMOTEEMERGENCYSTOP SWITCH

A.The enclosure shall be equipped with exterior emergency breakglass stations to shutdownthegenerator. Aminimumof2arerequired,oneperside. Nameplateof eachbreakglassstationtoread“EMERGENCYSTOPOFGENERATOR”.

2.34 STRIPHEATER

A.Thermostaticallycontrolledunitarranged tomaintainstatorwindingabovedewpointto preventanti-condensation.

2.35 JACKETWATERHEATER

A.Onejacketwaterheater9,000W,208volt,singlephase,withthermostaticcontroland oilpressuredisconnectswitchtomaintainengineatconstanttemperatureof90°Fto

120°F. Jacketwaterheatershallbefurnishedwithballvalveshut-offsattheinletand outletandfactorywiredrelaystodisconnectpowerduringengineoperation.

2.36 WIRINGANDCONNECTORS:

A.All conduits, wire, cables, interconnections,etc., entering or exiting the generator enclosureshallbefurnishedandinstalledbytheinstallingcontractor.Allwiring shallbe inconduitssizedinaccordance withtheNEC.Allpowerandcontrolwiringshallbe THHN/THWNcopper,installedforacompleteandoperatingsystem.

2.37 GENERATOROVERCURRENTANDFAULT PROTECTION:

A.GeneratorCircuitBreaker: Moldedor Insulatedcasecase,LSItrip,100%rated, complyingwithUL489

(1) 24VDCSHUNTTRIP:Connectedtotripbreakerupongeneratorshutdownby otherprotectivedevices.

(2) AUXILLIARY SWITCHES: 2A/2B aux contacts for customer use for remote breakerstatusmonitoring.

(3) BELLALARM: 1formCcontactforcustomerusetomonitorcircuitbreaker

“Tripped”status

B.GroundFaultIndication: ComplywithNFPA,“EmergensySystem”signalsforground- fault. AfromCdrycontactwillbeprovidedtoallowcustomerannunciationupona groundfaultcondition. GroundfaultalarmmoduletobeWOKAGFA300modelor approvedequal.

PART3- EXECUTION

3.01 LOADBANKTESTING

A. Provide load bank testing. The load bank will be capable of definite and precise incrementalloadingand shallnotbedependentonthegeneratorcontrolinstrumentationto readamperage,voltage,orfrequency.Rather,thetestinstrumentationwillserveasa checkofthegeneratorsetmeters.Further,the load bankshallbe power factor matchedto theratingofthegeneratorsetasshowninthemanufacturer’s publisheddataandas specifiedforthisproject.

3.02 WARRANTY

A.Equipmentfurnishedunder thisSectionshallbeguaranteedagainstdefectivepartsand workmanshipunderthetermsandconditionsofthemanufactureranddealers standard warranty.But,innoeventshallitbeforaperiodoflessthanoneyearfromdateof initialstart-upof thesystemandshallincludelaborandtraveltimefornecessaryrepairs atthejob-site.Submittal start-up datareceivedwithoutwrittenwarrantiesasspecified willberejectedin theirentirety.
