About Resource

Resource – the Jewish Employment Advice Centre is an independent charity which is culturally sensitive to the needs of the Jewish community and provides outplacement support (including advice, seminars, training and facilities) to assist work ready unemployed people, eligible to work in the UK, back into employment. Resource is based on two sites in Finchley, North London providing consulting rooms, general offices and seminar space.

About the position

This role will provide leadership and management of Resource, creating and delivering an innovative, robust and sustainable strategic plan that will respond to and fulfil the needs of our clients by providing a professional, high quality outplacement service.

Key Responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Take the leading role in defining the strategic direction and key priorities of Resource, ensuring a long term strategy is in place to support the organisation in achieving its objectives
  • Oversee all income generating activity: identify and approach potential sustainable funding streams (trusts, donors, supporters, public funding); overall management of fundraising events/functions
  • Recruit, induct, train, develop and manage the performance of the paid staff and volunteers to ensure that Resource is responsive to clients’ needs and the office is run efficiently and professionally
  • Recruit facilitators (paid and volunteer) to meet the specific needs of Resource and ensure that they are inducted, trained and monitored
  • Work with Networking Manager to identify range of contacts and ensure that all networking opportunities are maximised for the benefit of clients and Resource
  • Implement an effective marketing and communications strategy, including producing information and publicity materials and developing promotions as required.
  • Monitor all seminars to ensure the content is current and of high quality, commissioning new seminars as appropriate to meet the needs of clients
  • Effectively manage the premises at Dancastle and Fairacres, maintain Health & Safety standards and deal with any issues arising
  • Oversee financial procedures and systems, including responsibility for setting and monitoring budget for Resource and preparing monthly and quarterly financial reports for the Trustees
  • Provide reports on Resource activity as required to Trustees and funders
  • Ensure Resource’s compliance with charity, employment, fiscal and other legal requirements
  • Ensure the service offers an excellent interface with the public using all channels including our online presence, showcasing Resource to prospective clients, external agencies and organisations, donors and supporters
  • Form collaborative links with community groups and statutory agencies that can be developed into active partnerships for the benefit of clients
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the jobs market, employment trends and statistics, identifying issues pertinent to client base and using the data to inform Resource’s service provision
  • Develop and maintain relevant policies, procedures and systems, including overseeing the functionality and accuracy of Resource’s IT systems and databases
  • Ensure that confidentiality remains a priority and that the Data Protection legislation is complied with.

General

  • Attend meetings, internal and external, as required
  • Participate in training and development initiatives determined in conjunction with the Trustees

  • Ensure that Resource is managed sensitively to meet the requirements of Jewish culture and individual clients
  • Carry out other duties that may be reasonably requested by the Trustees

Skills, experience and characteristics

  • An energetic and creative leader, with the capacity to motivate and inspire
  • Commercial acumen to cultivate sustainable revenue streams
  • CIPD qualified or similar qualification, with experience of outplacement and/or HR
  • Experience of managing staff and volunteers and ability to work within a diverse team
  • Sound financial knowledge, with experience of setting and managing budgets
  • Fundraising experience, both funding applications and event management
  • Experience of working with vulnerable people (desirable)
  • Voluntary sector experience (desirable)
  • An effective communicator, able to promote Resource and act as spokesperson in range of public settings
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people, including vulnerable individuals and those under stress, assertively when required
  • Self motivated with an ability to prioritise, manage own workload, use own initiative, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of relevant legislation relating to employment, H&S, Data Protection, Equal Opportunities
  • Strong IT skills including experience of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and databases and working knowledge of professional and social networking media
  • Understanding of the Jewish community and culture
