Purpose / To create an enjoyable, productive work environment within the agency
  1. Priorities: The agency strives to maintain a balanceamong 3 main priorities:
  2. Excellence in client care: Management staff are mindful of the agency mission, which is to help people live happier lives, and the treatment philosophy, which is client-centered.
  3. Needs of staff: Management staff are mindful that staff who feel valued and supported are more likely to strive for excellence, which will increase the success of the agency in both of the other priorities (client care, agency protection)
  4. Protection of the agency: Management staff are mindful that in order to carry out the agency’s mission with clients and to provide work for its staff, the agency must be stable and safe, related to financial, legal, and regulatory responsibilities.
  5. Management concepts: The agency uses the following management concepts to ensure that staff feel valued, clients receive quality services, and the agency is in compliance with standards:
  6. Selection: Staff are selected based not only on their credentials, but also on their “fit” with the agency’s work culture and treatment philosophy
  7. Preparation: Staff are given excellent training, both initially and on an ongoing basis, to set them up for success. They are kept informed of changes in expectations
  8. Guidance: Staff are given feedback in a way they remain motivated and maintain job satisfaction, including a focus on their strengths
  9. Support: Superiors see themselves as support staff for their subordinates, helping them to have excellent performance and job satisfaction. Superiors value input from their subordinates and provide help, motivation, flexibility, and understanding.
  10. Agency culture: The agency strives to create a culture represented by the acronym CREST (adopted from Community-Based Care of Central Florida)
  11. Communication: Open communication is encouraged between all levels of staff. Input from clients, all levels of staff, and other stakeholders is valued and encouraged, as it allows management staff to make policy change decisions that consider this information. Written policies and procedures are available to all staff, both in the office and on the agency website.
  12. Respect: Staff show that they respect and value each other by being considerate and understanding, and by listening to each other. Staff also show that they respect and value clients, their families, referral sources, and other stakeholders.
  13. Empowerment: Staff are given the preparation to do their jobs effectively and then are given authority over their own domain. This not only means that they get credit for their achievements, but also that they are responsible for correcting their mistakes. Although supervisors monitor and give feedback, they give only as much guidance as is necessary for staff to feel competent and confident in themselves.
  14. Support: All positions within the agency depend on each other, so collaboration is essential for the agency, and each individual in it, to perform their best. Staff are encouraged to help each other and to ask for help, because teamwork results in a higher level of excellence than individuals alone.
  15. Trust: Through communication, respect, empowerment, and support, trusting relationships are built between staff at all levels.
