JOB DESCRIPTION AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
Post Title: Senior Instructor – Construction (Trade based skills)
Salary: Instructor Scale B Point 9 to 15
Accountable to: Head of Centre and Head Teacher
Role: Responsible to the Head of Centre, your primary responsibility will be instructing and assessing students in the assigned subject area; this will include planning, instruction, problem solving, developing curriculum and resource as well as developing social, emotional awareness, independence and resilience of our pupils in line with the Witherslack Group ethics and values. You will also support pupils to identify transition opportunities in preparation for progression in education and or work in industry. You will also be expected to perform additional responsibilities as Senior Instructor, which is outlined below:
Principle Responsibilities (Senior Instructor)
- In the absence of the Head of Centre assume their role and responsibilities, maintaining operational effectiveness and overseeing the welfare and safety of pupils and Staff.
- Report to the Head of Centre weekly on progress against agreed targets.
- Take a leading role in supporting and coaching Staff at the Centre.
- Be responsible for the effectiveness and alignment of communication regarding pupil progress and achievement to all partner schools and home.
- Take a lead role in supporting the Staff team in preparation of portfolio’s for internal and external quality monitoring processes.
- Support the Head of Centre in aspects of quality monitoring that will directly feed into the centre development plan and the operational and strategic performance of the Centre.
Principal Responsibilities (Instructor)
- Instructing and assessing students in the area of construction related trades; this will include, instruction, problem solving and job seeking skills to prepare the students for progression in education and or work in industry.
- Design and create an engaging and innovative learning programme to inspire young people to engage in the assigned subject area.
- Demonstrate the ability to differentiate learning for a diverse group of pupils.
- Produce teaching resources and lesson plans, schemes of work, assessment documentation and progress reports whilst working both independently and as part of a team.
- Prepare and maintain all records and reports related to assessment, attendance, progress and activities; submit all documents on time.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local employers to develop work place opportunities or possibly to place students at worksites.
- To ensure the effective and efficient management, organisation and purchase of learning resources for your subject area.
- To participate in arrangements for preparing for public examinations or accreditations, and in assessing pupils for the purposes of such examinations/accreditations; recording and reporting such assessments; participating in arrangements for pupils' presentation for, and supervision during examinations.
Working Time
The Instructor employed full time will be required to work 195 days in any one year, of which
190 days shall be days on which he/she may be required to teach pupils. The Witherslack
Group year calendar facilitates this.
The Instructor may be required to work at specific times and other site or places at the direction of the Head of Centre or Head Teacher. The instructor will work 37 hours per week.

Qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English / E
Relevant teaching qualification (PTTLS or above) or a willingly to work towards completing one in two years. / E
At least level 2 qualifications (preferably higher) in more than one construction trade (ideally bricklaying, plastering, rendering or finishing skills, painting & decorating or joinery) Or the ability to demonstrate significant industry experience and competence in one or more of those areas. / E

Experience
A minimum of two years relevant industry experience in multiple trade areas / E
