ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!

01-. 8th SUNDAY of the YEAR: GOD’S KINGDOM AND HIS JUSTICE

Psalmist’s words point the trust to God: “Truly, He is our refuge and salvation…….He is my God and my salvation”. God never abandons and if we trust Him, He ensures us His Kingdom.

In the first reading we read: Scion said: “The Lord abandoned me and my Lord forgot me”. It is the Faithfull’s cry from every religion, the cry of the church in the storm, the cry of everybody who confronts a big pain. The answer of the prophet Isaiah is subversive “Can a woman forget her baby?” Jesus’ answer to this question is: “your Father in heaven knows very well that you need all these….(the material goods). But you are asking for the kingdom of God and His justice and everything additional to them”. So the Liturgy of the Word invites us to an unlimited trust to God, because His love is without limits.

02-.THE LENT and ITS SYMBOLISM.

What Lent symbolizes? It reminds us the number 40, which is the number of years Jews were living in the desert before entering in the Promised Land (Es.16,35), are the days which Jesus was living in the desert “tempted by the devil”(Mk.1,13), also is the symbolic number which shows fulfillment…….. Forty are also the days of cataclysm (Gen.7,4), the duration of David’s kingdom(2 Sam.5,4) Elias journey towards the mountain Chorive(1 Bas.19,8) the agreed time for Nineveh’s change(John.3,4). Forty are also the days which our dear Christ revealed to His disciples (Pr.Ap.1,3). And to conclude forty is the duration of period in which……we are waiting for the intervention of God.

03-.LENT IS THE TIME OF FASTING, SACRIFICE and ABSTINENCE.

Many people they don’t keep the fasting because they don’t know how to realize it. They think that is a very difficult practice which causes discomfort. Everybody can fast: old people, ill people, pregnant women, nursing mothers, young and adults without causing any health problem. On the contrary is good for our health.

The fasting of Lent is an expression of solidarity with Christ, tortured, wiped, crowned with thorns and sentenced to death, crucified and dead. This is why we must understand deeply the meaning of this fasting, which guide us to a status of equilibrium, removing us from the consuming behavior, which in our times, led us to a moral, spiritual and economic crisis.

Saint Peter Chrysologos the 451 wrote: “The fasting is the peace of body, the power of spirit and the vigor of soul (….). The fasting is the wheel which governs our existence in the human life.

The personal sacrifice is a free choice and commitment to deprive of myself from something which makes me happy (materialistic, not spiritual, not moral etc.).

The abstinence is compulsory every Friday of Lent. It is an abstinence from consumption of meat with the commitment to replace it with a simple food

04-.LENT’S GATHERING in the HOLY MASS from ARCHBISHOP NIKOLAOS

Every year, the time of Lent our Archbishop visits and prays with his faithful in his Ecclesiastic province. He is visiting the parish Churches to have a contact with his faithful and the different committees. The meaning of this gathering is the pastor’s unity with his flock. Lent is the appropriate time, because is possessed by the penitence. The people of God gathers with the pastor who has been elected by the Saint Spirit, to thank united the God Father and apologize for the errors that have done. Let us not forget that God wants His Church united……let us do His Will.

PSYCHICO: SATURDAY 8 MARCH at 18.00

NEA MAKRI: SUNDAY 9 MARCH at 18.00

We call all the parishioners to be present in this gathering of penitence as a preparation for Easter celebration.

04-.EVERY FRIDAY of LENT: THE WAY OF THE CROSS and the HOLY MASS

Every Friday of Lent we celebrate the Way of the Cross which encourages us to deepen and study the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. The language used at St. John and at Ap. Paul is Greek, English and French (Psychico). Let us give more time to our consciousness to deepen better in the Word of Lord, hopping to have the occasion to feel Christians with penitence and charity as something spiritual which completes people and not as something social. (See the program above).
