Today’s Scripture:

Thomas Merton once wrote, “Man is not at peace with his fellow man because he is not at peace with himself. And he is not at peace with himself because he is not at peace with God.” Only when we are in communion with God will we be in communion with ourselves and our fellow humans. This simple formula summarises Israel’s mission of gathering all peoples in right praise to God and Mount Sion. Although the world is divided in countless ways, Israel’s gathering mission is realistic because Christ, the Messiah, is Lord, and all will be gathered in himself. For this we wait in joyful hope. Advent : is a four-week liturgical season that opens the Church’s year. It nudges us to prepare for Christmas when Christ’s First Coming to us is remembered and to direct our minds and heart to await Christ’s Second coming at the end of time.
Advent Wreath : the circle represents eternity, time without end; the evergreens stand for eternal life. The candles remind us of Christ, ‘the light of the world’. Three candles are purple (reminders of the spirit of penance), the pink candle is for joy (3rd Sunday). An additional candle is lit each Sunday of Advent as the celebration of Christ’s coming draws near. The white candle is lit at Christmas.
The Jesse Tree : The tree’s name comes from Jesse, father of King David, who is regarded as the ‘root’ of Jesus’ family-line in scripture.
