Principal Notes from Mrs. Gibbs

Welcome back to school! We hope that you and your family had a restful, joyous holiday break. Everyone at Carr Elementary is eager to get back into our routine. The faculty and staff have prepared a rigorous, but exciting second semester of learning for our students. It is our hope that you can join us throughout the semester. Please contact your child’s teacher or the main office at 270-472-1637 if you are interested in becoming a volunteer, speaking to a class, serving on a committee, and/or joining the PTO at Carr Elementary. Great things happen when families, communities, and schools work together!

Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, January 7th. The scores from last year’s state assessments will be attached to fourth and fifth grade report cards. Please look for this information and contact your child’s teacher at any time with questions. We will discuss your child’s blue folder assessment data and writing folder during our next scheduled parent teacher conferences on March 17th.

As part of our positive behavior system, we have our Second Nine Weeks Referral Free Celebration scheduled for Friday, January 9th. Students that did not receive an office referral during this time period will be invited to run through an inflatable obstacle course from Spacewalk of Martin, TN. Our teachers are planning a special treat for the third nine weeks so be sure to stress the importance of following classroom rules during this grading period!

Remember to read with your child for at least twenty minutes each evening to build reading fluency and comprehension skills. Reading grade level material fluently with minimal errors is a critical skill for your child.
