Course Description: The 8th grade social studies focus is on Georgia. Geography, history, economics, and government will be emphasized. Gwinnett County and the state of Georgia have aligned the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) objectives that we will study this year.
Daily activities: Teacher websites are kept up to date and should be visited frequently to be aware of important turn in and testing dates. In addition students will be asked to visit teacher web pages for discussion boards, to view videos, and to submit assignments.

Assignments and Learning Opportunities:

These may include reading, note taking, map skills, oral presentations, quizzes, and written responses.

Make-up Work

  1. Student will be given one day for makeup of any work missed for each day student was absent.
  2. If a student is present when an assignment is given, student is expected to have the assignment when he/she returns unless arrangements have been made with the teacher.
  3. If an assignment is given prior to a prearranged absence, it is expected that work will be turned in the day the student returns. When a student turns in a partial assignment, he/she will be given credit for the amount of work completed.

Tests: Tests will be given periodically and assessment items may include: multiple-choice, matching, true/false, short answer, and/or essay.

Projects: Projects may include writing assignments, research, oral presentations, and student-produced presentations. Project frequency will vary during each grading period depending on the material being covered.

Morning Help Sessions: Social Studies will meet for morning help on Wednesdays mornings at 8:15 am. Hall passes for help session(s) must appear in email or other printed form, or in student’s agenda. No other staff members’ signature will be accepted. Additional help may be prearranged by the student, parent, and teacher when necessary.
