Parent Dragon Connection – October 31, 2016:
Good evening parents,
As you can imagine today was a difficult day at Southern Middle School. Our counselors, teachers, and other staff members did an excellent job in doing their best to meet the needs of our students. If you are concerned about your child, please let us know by emailing a school counselor or administrator and we will make sure that they are seen for support.
• Drama Club will meet on Tuesday for 6th and 8th graders and on Thursday for 7th graders.
• Step team will practice on Tuesday and Thursday.
• The Pay-it-Forward club will meet on Wednesday until 3:45.
• On Thursday, select orchestra students will be participating in the All-County Orchestra Clinic. The concert will be at 5:30 at Pinecrest High School.
• If you have not returned your Impact Aid form, please do so this week.
• This Friday, we will have a PBIS Fall Festival from 3:00-5:00. Students must pay for their admission with Dragon Bucks – Regular money will be needed to purchase concessions.
• Girls basketball tryouts will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6:00-7:15 AM. Please drop off students in the bus parking lot and have them enter through the door that goes directly into the gym.
• Boys basketball tryouts will be on Wednesday, Thursday and Monday from 3:00-4:15 PM.
• Wrestling will begin on Wednesday, November 2nd. Practice will be from 4:15 until 5:30.
• ALL students trying out for Winter sports must have a current physical on file in the office before they can participate.
• There will be a mandatory parent meeting for Winter sports on Thursday, November 10th. Each coach will let parents know the time and location for their meetings.
• We are excited to announce that we have a new Dragon Athletic Booster Club! We’d love to have your involvement and support. Join us on Thursday, November 10th at 5:30 in the cafeteria to learn more about how you can help and support our school’s athletic programs. If you cannot come to the meeting, please call our school office and leave your name and email address and someone will contact you.
• November 8th is Conference Day – students will not have school. Students should come with a parent during the hours of 1-7 to show parents their progress so far this year.
• There will be a PTA sponsored dance on Thursday, November 10th from 6:00-8:00.
• Friday, November 11th is a school holiday – Thank you to our active Military Personnel and our Veterans.
